Levenshulme Good Neighbours

Levenshulme Good Neighbours We are a charity based in Levenshulme that works to match older people with volunteer befrienders in the local community. We'd love to hear from you

Levenshulme Good Neighbours is a registered charity that works with volunteers to offer support to older people living in the Levenshulme area of Manchester. Our work involves recruiting volunteer befrienders who help people in a wide range of social, emotional and practical ways. We visit people at home and help them to get out and about as well as offering activities, social events and days out.

If you’re inspired to make a difference, either by volunteering or supporting us, then get touch. We’d love to hear from you!

For LGN, National Trustee Week has had a lasting effect for the entire month. We met on the 1st of November, a Saturday, when other working professionals are usually putting their feet up and sipping a cuppa. Our trustees, many of whom are still in paid employment, go the extra mile for our beneficiaries; whether that is dressing up for Halloween on a Sunday Roast, or ensuring our comings and goings are up to date, travelling many miles to do so. That’s commitment, not to mention the ongoing support from other board members that continues to have a deep impact on the staff and service users overall. Thank you LGN trustees. Rachel, Lou and Liz, here, are some of the key members keeping us going from strength to strength—community influencers. Shout out to Grants and Fatiha too.
“Being a trustee gives me an insight into worlds that I am fascinated by, and gives me an opportunity to learn more about them and also to influence – to a certain degree – the direction the charity takes.”

Looking back on Older People’s Day, our volunteer Befriender Sadie couldn’t have encapsulated more exactly why our older people in our communities are so important, and why getting to know those who are more vulnerable and in some need is not just crucial but rewarding. Things would be easier for those at risk of isolation if their dignity, making a connection were a daily priority for 365 days. Hear our Saide put it best!!!!

More than 50% of the registrants and diners of the monthly Levenshulme Good Neighbours and Inspired Taskforce’s Sunday Lunch report🕶 that the social connection, meeting, and making of friends was a primary difference and impact that being physically present made on them. We love how its ever-increasing numbers, and intergenerational in scope.👣🗣🧠
