This is what it’s all for 💛

We are so sad that these Bags of Sunshine are even needed, but so proud of what we have created here, supporting families in their worst moments. All in Freddie’s name.

The bags cost around £50 each, which we know isn’t a cheap gift however it’s worth so much more than that, the comfort they offer is priceless.

Please, if you can, continue to support us so we can provide more

💙 Royal Bolton Hospital 💙

Another special one (they’re all special to be honest!) as Royal Bolton Hospital is where our sunshine boy Freddie entered the world.

We are so proud to have been invited to have a stand at the Northern Care Alliance’s study day for bereavement teams today to talk about Freddie and his legacy.
I was able to share with the teams about the Bags of Sunshine and why they have come to be. I also got to meet the parents behind .islilaslight and .bathe who are both doing incredible things to support families living through the unimaginable.
It was such an honour be to be able to do this and showcase Freddie and what we are achieving in his name. The feedback and reaction I received was amazing and I’m so proud of what we have managed already ☀️🤍

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals 🧡✨

Another amazing visit with the wonderful people in the bereavement team at Blackpool Victoria.
It really is a privilege to get to meet the people who are there to hold the hands of people when they are at their lowest. They’re all such kind and compassionate humans.

Alder Hey 💚✨
More bags distributed, this time to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
What an incredible facility they have there, that the lovely Alison took us around. The Alder Centre there is a prime example of what Freddie’s Sunshine would love to create in Manchester, but for now, our Bags of Sunshine will be additional support for those families facing the unimaginable 🤞🏼☀️

Salford Royal Hospital 💛
A very strange and emotional experience taking the Bags of Sunshine to Salford Royal. This is the hospital where Freddie died, and these two wonderful ladies are the beautiful souls who have been there to hold our hands and hearts ever since.
Knowing they have already gifted these bags to parents who have walked the exact same steps as us is devastating, but we are so proud that we are able to give those parents a small comfort in their worst moments.
Freddie’s legacy continues… ✨

Bags of Sunshine ☀️

This week we have been at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to distribute the first Bags of Sunshine to their lovely Family Support Team.

Losing a child is the most heartbreaking thing any parent can go through. In the moments after that loss, it can feel like the world stops. Parents leave the hospital not only without their child, but with empty arms and broken hearts.

Each year, around 3,500 families in the UK face the devastating loss of a child. In those early days, when grief is at its rawest, many parents are left feeling completely alone. There’s often very little support available straight away, and even less that feels personal or meaningful.

This year, in partnership with the charity Imagine This, we have launched the Bags of Sunshine project. These care packages are designed to bring a small bit of comfort to parents in the early days after the death of a child.

The project has launched in the North West of England, starting with 100 Bags of Sunshine delivered to bereaved families at hospitals, including Salford Royal Hospital, where Freddie passed away and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, who cared for Freddie after he had passed.

Each Bag of Sunshine will include:
· A weighted soft toy to help ease the emptiness many parents feel in their arms.
· A cooling face mask and lip balm to soothe tired, tearful faces.
· A candle to light in memory of the child.
· A notebook and pen for writing down thoughts or letters to their child, something many parents find helpful.
· Wildflower seeds to plant in memory of their child, bringing new life from loss.
· Fidget toy to help with anxiety and restlessness.
· A poem by Donna Ashworth

The items were chosen with great care, based on input from bereaved parents and experienced bereavement nurses. Each one serves a purpose, to bring a moment of peace, comfort, or connection during a time that can feel impossibly heavy.

The Bags of Sunshine also contain information on grief, where to find emotional support, and details of crisis helplines.
This project begins with 100 bags, 100 families, and 100 chances to offer comfort, even in the darkest moments.

Join us!

All are welcome to join us on the 27th April in aid of Freddie’s Sunshine!

A walk of about 6 miles from Holcombe Brook to the iconic Peel Tower then over Harcles Hill to the historic Pilgrims cross and on to the summit of Bull Hill.

We’ll return by a slightly different route. This is a mainly moorland walk which can be wet underfoot and has some fairly steep climbs. If the weather is bad there will be an alternative route at lower level. A shorter walk can be arranged for anyone who would like an easier alternative.

Please arrive from 10 am for a 10.30 start . Plenty of parking on nearby roads. Drinks and food on return probably around 1 to 1.30

Please let us know if you intend to join us and we’ll provide the rendezvous address ☀️🤍 hope to see you there!

Please remember this is in aid of Freddie’s Sunshine charity and so we would appreciate a donation to attend 💛

Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important week in the baby and infant loss community, however, BLAW isn’t aimed at bereaved parents.

Parents of loss don’t need a specific week to remember their precious child, they are ever present in their mind through all points of life, be it at home, at work or socialising, a bereaved parent is always thinking of their child.
Baby Loss Awareness Week is intended to bring awareness to baby and infant loss, and to shine a light on the journey that bereaved parents go through every day. A lifelong journey.

Please do join us in lighting a candle at 7pm on 15th October 2024 to join in the Wave of Light, and check in on your friends and family who have experienced baby loss throughout the year, not just this week.

We remember
The babies born sleeping,
The babies carried and never held,
The babies we held
but could not take home,
The babies who came home
but could not stay
