The Windrush Cricket Book Launch was a resounding success in Manchester, UK.
I recently attended the Windrush Cricket Book Launch alongside the West Indies Cricket legend Sir Clive Lloyd at the iconic Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, UK.
The Windrush Cricket book launch was well attended, with representatives from across northwest England and West Indian communities in Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Trafford, Salford, and surrounding areas such as Oldham, Stockport, and Bolton.
Dr Michael Collins is the author of “Windrush Cricket”, which depicts the imperial culture, Caribbean immigration, and the remaking of post-war England.
Dr Collins, in front of a very knowledgeable cricket audience, including Sir Clive Lloyd, the Lancashire and West Indies Cricket legend, talks about the historical and contemporary significance of cricket for Caribbean migrants to Britain and teases out some of the Lancashire stories featured in his research.
It was also fitting that the book launch took place inside the Old Trafford Cricket Ground Members Pavilion, where the West Indians in the Lancashire Leagues Cricket Exhibition is situated, which I helped to produce. The exhibition celebrates the rich legacy of West Indies cricketers in the North of England.
The event was organised by Lancashire Cricket Foundation and made possible with support from the Heritage Fund.
