Gaddum Hi, we're Gaddum. We are a mental health and carers charity for Greater Manchester. Registered charity no.507162 Hi, I’m Gaddum.

I’m a charity offering advocacy, carer support, mental health, counselling and therapy services to Manchester. For nearly 200 years, I’ve been a voice for people struggling to have theirs heard, a shoulder to cry on for those shouldering a burden and a helping hand for anyone helping others to cope. I believe supporting individuals has a ripple effect on the whole community, ultimately building better futures all round. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, but whatever situation you find yourself in, I’m here to listen.

Salford carers - we want to hear from you! 🎉

As our Salford Carers team plans events and activities for 2027, we want to know what events you'd like to see happen.

Whether you've joined Gaddum events before or have never attended, your feedback is really valued.

We'd love to know what activities you enjoy most, what you'd like more of and any new or different event ideas you have in mind.

You can submit your feedback by completing our online survey. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and your responses will help inform our planning for the year ahead.

While we can't guarantee that every suggestion will become an event or activity, we'll carefully consider all feedback and do our best to develop a programme that reflects the interests and needs of carers 😊

“Honestly, I’m just so happy all the time”

Thank you Alison for stopping to talk to us about the importance of living as your true, authentic self.

There’s a level of vulnerability that comes with being completely who we are. There’s no hiding behind a mask, or pretending to be something or someone we’re not. We may worry how others might perceive us, or how they may react, but there’s real power in living life truly and authentically ‘you’.

In the lead up to World Mental Health Day this Saturday 10th October, we’ll be sharing stories of mental health, community, belonging and connection 🩵

Want to get involved and join in the conversation about mental health?

Try our “How are you, really?” challenge:

Step 1: Ask a friend, colleague, relative or neighbour “How are you, really?”

Step 2: Listen. Give your time and attention, and let them know it’s okay to be honest about how they’re feeling.

Sometimes the simplest question can make the biggest difference 🩵

Thank you to Nathan for stopping to chat to us about finding purpose, the importance of carving our own path in life, and finding the joy in everyday moments.

A huge thank you to Dan for stopping by to talk about the importance of human connection in an increasingly digital world, and the mental health struggles he’s faced after being in the military.

“Carers are the hidden patients”

A huge thank you to Alicia, a carer from Salford, for delivering a fantastic guest lecture at

Alicia talked about her recommendations to nursing students, based on her lived experience & expertise as an unpaid carer. In this second clip, Alicia highlights an often-overlooked reality: unpaid carers are often hidden patients too.

Alicia highlights how lonely and isolating it can be caring for someone. She advocates for professionals to identify, support & work alongside unpaid carers, to help prevent failed discharges, save the NHS time and money, and prevent carer burnout and crisis.

UoS staff said: “Thank you very much for the preparation and effort that went into your presentation this morning. We truly appreciate you taking the time to speak with our students.... and extend particular thanks to Alicia for sharing her experiences. The information shared this morning will undoubtedly have a meaningful impact.”
