We Love MCR Charity

We Love MCR Charity We Love MCR is Manchester's own Charity. We give heart, hope and opportunity to the people of Manchester, when they need it most!

We help young Mancs remove unfair barriers to success, and support our communities to empower themselves with vital grants. We give heart, hope and opportunity to the people of Manchester, when they need it most. We do this firstly by supporting young Mancunians, giving them the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions through our Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund. Removing financial barriers to success

in qualifications, work and entrepreneurship. We also support our communities, that make Manchester special. Our Stronger Communities Fund empowers local people and volunteer groups to improve their own areas and spaces, whenever they are ready. We listen, and act on their inspiring ideas. Finally, we are responsive and ready when the city needs us most. People across Manchester faced immense and immediate challenges when Covid-19 struck, and our Community Response Fund offered rapid support to frontline organisations, to make real differences at speed - awarding nearly Β£1million to 300+ groups. Through this, we improved lives, and saved lives. The launch of our recent MCR Ukraine Welcome Fund, for the wave of evacuees due to arrive in the city, is yet another example of this readiness. What a night at the Manchester Velodrome! 🏐

Last Saturday, We Love MCR Charity was proud to be the Official Event Charity Partner for AO Manchester Thunder's final regular season home game against Loughborough Lightning. And what an occasion it was with Thunder taking the win in the dying seconds! See you at the final Thunder's! 🐝

We took a group of our Manchester's Rising Stars and Stronger Communities along for the night and seeing them experience the atmosphere, the energy and the sheer brilliance of the game was worth every moment. Safe to say they loved it.

Nights like this are a brilliant reminder of what great charity partnerships can do. Manchester Thunder shares our belief that sport has the power to bring communities together and create real, lasting impact beyond the final whistle. That spirit was felt all around the Velodrome on Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who donated on the night, whether through tickets or the QR codes around the arena. Every contribution goes directly towards empowering Manchester's young people and communities.

And a huge thank you to AO Manchester Thunder for choosing We Love MCR Charity as their partner for such a special occasion. We hope it is the first of many. πŸ’›

Spotted on the route! πŸ‘€

Thousands of runners. One brilliant city. And our message up in lights along the way.

We were made up to see our graphics featured on numerous Ocean billboard's throughout the city during the Great Manchester Run, carrying a message that says everything about who we are and what we do.

Running towards a stronger Manchester.

That is not just a line. It is exactly what our 34 runners were doing on Sunday, and exactly what We Love MCR Charity does every single day through the people and projects we support across this city.

A huge thank you to our brilliant charity partners Ocean for sharing our message with the streets of Manchester. And to every single one of our runners who gave their all and raised vital funds for the communities and young people who need it most.

And if this is the first time you have come across us, welcome. We are Manchester's charity. Find out more about who we are and how you can get involved via our wesbite. 🐝

A final act of giving from our outgoing Chair.

As Councillor Carmine Grimshaw's year as Lord Mayor of Manchester draws to a close, he leaves with one final and very special gift to the city he loves.

Each year, our outgoing Chair has a Β£10,000 allocation to award to community groups and causes he has encountered during his mayoral year. Groups that have stayed with him. People he has met who reminded him why this work matters.

This year, Councillor Carmine has chosen to share that funding across a number of brilliant organisations.

Some of the charities he visited where the Alzheimer's Society, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Christie's Charity, Francis House Children's Hospice and Wood Street Mission.

All brilliant organisations doing extraordinary work for the people of Manchester every single day.

It has been the greatest privilege to have Councillor Carmine as our Chair this year. His warmth, his pride in this city and his genuine commitment to the people who need it most has shone through everything he has done.

Thank you, Carmine. What a year.

🐝 What a day. Team We Love MCR, you were incredible.

The Great Manchester Run delivered everything we love about this city. Thousands of people, one brilliant atmosphere and a reminder of what Manchester is all about when it comes together.

Our 34 runners across the 10K and Half Marathon did us so proud. Whether it was a personal best, a first ever race or simply crossing that finish line on sheer determination, every single one of them gave everything out there today.

The VIP area was a brilliant base for the team and from what we saw and heard, it went down very well. You earned every treat, every goody and every moment off your feet afterwards.

But more than the medals and the memories, every mile our runners covered this weekend will make a real difference to young people and communities right across Manchester. That is what this is all about.

A massive thank you to everyone who ran for us, everyone who donated and everyone who cheered from the sidelines. You are all part of this.

Until next year. 🐝

"We applied for the stronger communities fund, and it has made us a stronger community."

Those are the words of Becca Cahill, founder of Walking Mums Club, and they say everything about why this fund exists.

The Stronger Communities Fund at We Love MCR Charity supports community groups and small charities across Manchester doing vital, grassroots work. Groups that bring people together, reduce isolation and make this city a better place to live.

For Becca and the Walking Mums Club, that funding helped take a brilliant idea and turn it into something lasting. Now meeting at six locations across Greater Manchester and supporting over 1,300 mums, the club is exactly the kind of community-led change we are proud to back.

If your group is working to bring people together, reduce loneliness, support young families or improve your local area, we want to hear from you.

Applications to the Stronger Communities Fund are open now. Grants of up to £4,000 are available. Apply via the link on our website. 🐝

🌿 Meet the Walking Mums Club.

What started as a group of five mums meeting for a walk during lockdown has grown into a community of over 1,300 mothers across Greater Manchester.

Founded by Becca Cahill in 2020, the Walking Mums Club brings new mums together at parks and waterways across the city for weekly walks that are about so much more than getting your steps in. It is about fresh air, real conversations, finding your people and building friendships that last long after the early days of motherhood.

As Becca puts it: "It can be very isolating when you first have a baby. Meeting up with other people who are on that same journey is absolutely vital."

We sat down with Becca to hear her story and find out what the club means to the mums who are part of it. Watch the film. Share it with a new mum who needs to see it. 🐝

πŸƒ 31 May is almost here and our Team We Love MCR runners are ready.

We have 34 brilliant people lining up for the Great Manchester Run this Sunday, taking on either the 10K or Half Marathon in the name of Manchester's young people and communities. And we could not be more proud of every single one of them.

From first timers to seasoned runners, they have all signed up, trained hard and committed to raising vital funds for We Love MCR Charity. That takes real dedication and we are so grateful.

On the day, we will be looking after our team in style. Bag drop, VIP facilities, goodies and a base right near the start and finish line. They deserve nothing less.

But before Sunday arrives, our runners are still fundraising and every donation makes a difference. If you want to back a member of Team We Love MCR and help power opportunities for young people and communities across Manchester, the link to support them is here > https://donate.justgiving.com/charity/welovemcr

Come on Team We Love MCR. We will see you out there. 🐝

A warm welcome to our new Chair of Trustees πŸ‘‹πŸ

A defining part of We Love MCR Charity's history is that our Chair of Trustees is always the sitting Lord Mayor of Manchester. It's a tradition that dates back to our earliest days as The Lord Mayor's Charity, and each May a new Lord Mayor is elected for a one-year term.

We are delighted to welcome Councillor Shaukat Ali as the 128th Lord Mayor of Manchester and our new joint Chair of Trustees alongside Chris Woodroofe.

Shaukat's story is one that resonates deeply with everything this charity stands for. He arrived in Manchester from Kashmir in 1982 at the age of 16, with no knowledge of English, and built a life here through hard work, determination and an unshakeable commitment to community. He attended evening classes, built his own businesses, and has represented the people of Cheetham as a councillor since 2012.

During his year as Lord Mayor, Shaukat has chosen to focus on supporting children in social care and promoting community cohesion across Manchester's diverse communities. Two causes that sit very close to the heart of what we do every day.

We could not be more proud to have him as our Chair. Welcome, Shaukat. 🐝

🐝 Thank you, Councillor Carmine Grimshaw.

As his year as the 127th Lord Mayor of Manchester draws to a close, Councillor Carmine Grimshaw steps down as Chair of Trustees at We Love MCR Charity. And what a year it has been.

Carmine is a lifelong Mancunian through and through. Born and raised in Ancoats, from street trader in the Northern Quarter to local councillor representing Miles Platting and Newton Heath since 2012, his whole story is one of graft, community and giving back to the city he loves.

That same spirit ran through everything he brought to We Love MCR Charity this year. His mayoral focus on dementia and cancer care sat alongside a genuine warmth for the work we do, backing young people and communities across Manchester, and he represented the charity with real pride and purpose at every turn.

We could not have asked for a better Chair, or a better ambassador for what this charity stands for.

Thank you, Carmine. Manchester is lucky to have you. 🐝
