Cottonopolis Women's Institute
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month in Manchester city centre, at Hallé St Michael's (George Leigh St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 5DG). City living can be lonely at times and we hope you will join us to make new friends and learn new skills in a fun, relaxed environment. Plus, it's the WI so there will always be tea and cake available ;-)
As well as our monthly
meetings, we run additional groups, including Craft Club, Pub Club, Book Club and Walking Netball. If you would like to suggest or even run a group of your own just let us know!

The Women’s Institute is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. It plays a unique role in enabling women to develop new skills and gives them opportunities to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. The WI was formed in 1915 with two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then our aims have broadened and we are now the largest women’s organisation in the UK.

The Benefits of Membership:
As a WI member, you will enjoy a varied programme, every member can contribute ideas to the annual programme of speakers, activities and events – the options are only limited by your imagination! Each WI holds eleven meetings every year and you can also get involved in the various regional and national level events and activities. Your membership also entitles you to eight copies a year of the WI membership magazine, WI Life, as well as regular newsletters and mailings to keep you up-to-date with all the news and events from your federation and the NFWI. One unforgettable event not to be missed is the Tea & Tents camping trip, which has its own programme of speakers, classes and events and the NFWI Annual Meeting, which brings together representatives from WIs all over the country. Each WI can be very different so you are welcome to attend our meetings as a guest (entry fee £3.00) to check that we are your cup of tea! Please drop us an email at [email protected] to let us know your coming so that we can have a cuppa tea (or a glass of wine if you've caught us in a celebratory mood) and a slice of cake ready for you! The full membership subscription for 2022 is £44. (Fees cover the cost of the meeting venue, any speakers or activities planned for the meetings, as well as supporting the WI, a registered women's charity itself.) New members joining throughout the year will pay a reduced pro rata fee depending on the quarter in which they join.
