A Saturday spent talking sustainability, community and the future! ☀️

What a lovely Saturday we had at Manchester Cathedral for Eco Fest! 💚

It was a fantastic opportunity for the GMCR team to meet people and communities from across Greater Manchester, introduce ourselves and share more about who we are, what we’ve achieved and the work we’re doing to create a more sustainable future. 🌍

We spoke about some of the impact GMCR has already made, our work supporting renewable energy, and some of the exciting projects we have coming up. ☀️⚡

Most importantly, it was a chance to connect with people, answer questions and have conversations about how together, we can make a real difference for our schools and communities. 🤝🌱

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with us and to the organisers of Eco Fest for bringing people together around such an important conversation.

☀ AND THE WINNERS ARE…

🌱💚 We’re thrilled to announce the results of our GMCR Solar Panel Competition — and we’re delighted to be supporting TWO fantastic Greater Manchester charities!

🎉 Back in February, we launched the competition, offering up to £10,000 from the GMCR Community Fund towards a solar project for a Greater Manchester charity.

After receiving some fantastic applications, our judging decision wasn’t easy. In the end, we decided to go one step further and award £15,000 in total to two organisations.

We’re excited to share that GMCR has joined Salix Finance on The Decarbonisation Dialogue podcast! 🎙️

Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Stockport Hydro. This community-owned hydro electricity station has been providing clean, renewable energy for around 60 houses for nearly 20 years !⚡️
If you’re in the area make sure to stop by and have a look at the incredible project. Stockport Hydro is ran wholly by volunteers - get in touch if you want to help out.

Join us at Fuelling Greater Manchester this Saturday when we'll be touring Stockport Hydro, a twin archimedes screw hydro scheme on the River Goyt. It's been set up by the community for the community ⚡⚡

100% volunteer run and all profits go to environmental projects in Stockport 💚

And bring your picnic if you want to relax afterwards - sunshine is forecast 😎

We’re excited to share that £15,000 has been awarded through our GMCR Community Fund to support three incredible local environmental projects 💚

⚡ Solar panels at the MS Therapy Centre
🌿 Peatland restoration at Little Woolden Moss
📚 Youth environmental education with Manchester Environmental Education Network
These projects are set to drive real change—reducing carbon, boosting energy efficiency, and inspiring the next generation 🌍
