Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Stockport Hydro. This community-owned hydro electricity station has been providing clean, renewable energy for around 60 houses for nearly 20 years !⚡️
If you’re in the area make sure to stop by and have a look at the incredible project. Stockport Hydro is ran wholly by volunteers - get in touch if you want to help out.

Join us at Fuelling Greater Manchester this Saturday when we'll be touring Stockport Hydro, a twin archimedes screw hydro scheme on the River Goyt. It's been set up by the community for the community ⚡⚡

100% volunteer run and all profits go to environmental projects in Stockport 💚

We’re excited to share that £15,000 has been awarded through our GMCR Community Fund to support three incredible local environmental projects 💚

⚡ Solar panels at the MS Therapy Centre
🌿 Peatland restoration at Little Woolden Moss
📚 Youth environmental education with Manchester Environmental Education Network
These projects are set to drive real change—reducing carbon, boosting energy efficiency, and inspiring the next generation 🌍

Join us on Monday 2nd March for the first Fuelling Greater Manchester event of 2026 which this month coincides with the 🌎📆

The event will feature some knowledge sharing presentations as well as plenty of time to catch up and network 🙌

Carbon Co-op will present a sneak peak of their GMCA commissioned report that reviews the capacity and ambition of the Community Energy sector and make recommendations for growth, development and collaboration 🌎

There's a huge amount of work already happening around community energy in Greater Manchester. We want to come together to think about how we can take the sector from strength to strength 💪

Everyone is welcome, from community energy experts to those who just want to hear more about how we can reclaim the energy system! ⚡
