Social care reform has dominated the news in recent weeks. With a Prime Minister who has said he is committed to solving social care and the expected publication of the Casey Commission next year, the momentum surrounding adult social care is bigger than ever before.

But what does adult social care have to do with young carers?

We want to ensure that young carers are not forgotten in the conversation on adult social care and highlight that adult social care has an important responsibility to identify and support young carers and their families.

As part of this with members from the Casey Commission Team, we are holding a Young Carers and Adult Social Care Summit!

This will be an opportunity for young carers caring for a relative over 18, young carers who have transitioned/are transitioning to adulthood, and for professionals supporting young carers to share their experiences.

We are particularly interested in making sure that as many young carers and young adult carers as possible are able to attend. For the Casey Commission Team, it will be especially powerful to hear directly from young carers themselves. Just a reminder our Halloween party is taking place on TUESDAY 27th October at 11.30am – 2.30pm
We will be in the main hall at the Dandelion community hub.
Fancy dress is welcome and the event is free for all. If you would like to take part in Bingo or the Raffle it will £1 per sheet.
If you have any dietary requirements, please let Sue know when booking.

Our Call-in Helpline opening hours are changing! 📞

Following the completion of our summer triage pilot, we're pleased to announce that from 6 October, our Call-in Helpline will once again be open on Thursdays.

New opening hours:

🗓️ Tuesday: 9.30am to 2.30pm
🗓️ Wednesday: 9.30am to 2.30pm
🗓️ Thursday: 9.30am to 2.30pm

We welcome today’s announcement by Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, to appoint a new champion for unpaid carers. It's been almost 20 years since there was last someone appointed by the UK Government to specifically champion the needs of carers , so we look forward to working with them to ensure the voices of carers and services who support them are heard.
