Time For The Coarse Fish To Spawn Posted on April 13, 2022 Whilst the Upper stretches of the Derbyshire Derwent are the home to game fish such as Trout & Grayling, as the river makes its journey down south towards the confluence with the Trent, the water slows. These slower reaches start to become a...

Winter Spawning Time Posted on November 22, 2021 As the colder weather starts to hit, our indigenous Derbyshire Brown Trout will be starting to pair up and spawn. Trout spawn in the gravel beds of our rivers in areas known as Redds. It’s so important at this time of year that these areas are prote...

Summer Levels Posted on September 8, 2021 Some of the Derbyshire rivers are low at the minute, with the very shallow riffles being exposed. Spring is still attempting to spring! The water temperatures are still low, but the wagtails are starting to enjoy the early fly hatches which are present on our rivers. It's a joy to see them taking flies mid-flight above the river.

A great effort by all involved...

A huge thank you to all the members of the Peacock Fly Fishing Club and volunteers that helped litter picking on the rivers we manage today. Here’s some of the rubbish! The rivers Wye, Lathkill and Derwent are now a cleaner place. We will be continuing our quest for clean rivers next week! A thank you to for collecting the rubbish and Mark Wakeman for arranging the bin bags for our yearly litter pick.

Signs & smells of spring on the riverbank >>

The First Signs (and smells) Of Spring Posted on February 24, 2021February 24, 2021 It’s an interesting statistic that we are more likely to get snow at Easter than Christmas. Whilst we are certainly still in Winters grip, on the river bank, and in nature, the first signs of Spring are showing. On...
