This year, International Albinism Awareness Day 2026, will be celebrated under the theme:

The theme calls for a shift from seeing mainly through appearance to recognising the full humanity, rights, and lived experiences of persons with albinism. It highlights how colour-based discrimination โ€” rooted in myths, stigma, and social bias โ€” affects their dignity, social inclusion, and, critically, their mental well-being.

The theme is closely linked to the forthcoming report to the United Nations General Assembly on the psychosocial impact of colour-based discrimination on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism.

Through this theme, 2026 aims to:
๐Ÿ”นRecognise that many violations against persons with albinism โ€” such as stigma, social exclusion, violence, and barriers to services โ€” constitute intersectional forms of discrimination, including colour-based discrimination.
๐Ÿ”นHighlight the psychosocial impacts of such discrimination, including chronic fear, anxiety, depression, trauma, and internalised stigma.
๐Ÿ”นCentre the dignity and voices of persons with albinism, ensuring they are seen beyond their skin tone and as full rights-holders.
๐Ÿ”นMobilise action by States, institutions, and society to address both the discriminatory root causes and the mental health consequences of colour-based discrimination.

On 13 June, we invite governments, institutions, civil society, and communities to celebrate every skin tone โ€” and challenge prejudice, amplify voices of persons with albinism, and promote environments where they can live with safety, equality, and well-being. ๐ŸŒ

At voice of Albinism we listen and not judge.

Project Overview: Connecting and Combating Isolation Among BAME Parents of Children with Albinism
Since launching in June 2025, this project has been about far more than simply bringing people together. It creates a supportive space where parents can share uplifting experiences, learn from one another, and build meaningful connections that strengthen the whole community. The work continues, and the project is still actively running as we expand our reach and deepen our impact.
This ongoing project is proudly supported

Project Overview: Connecting and Combating Isolation Among BAME Parents of Children with Albinism
Launched in June 2025, and still going on, this project is about far more than simply gathering together. Itโ€™s about creating a space where communities can share uplifting experiences, support one another, and build connections that genuinely make a difference. None of this would be possible without the support of The National Lottery Community Fund The National Lottery Community Fund.
