NHS issues an urgent appeal for Black donors as sickle cell treatment demand hits record high

In 2015, around 55,652 units of specialist blood were needed annually. That figure has since surpassed 84,000, yet only a small fraction of the NHS’s blood donors are Black or of dual heritage.

For others: check in with people, listen without judgement, show kindness, and create spaces where conversations about mental health feel safe and normal.

It is World Thalassaemia Day! Let’s look at some facts about the condition.

Thalassaemia is a genetic 🧬 condition which affects haemoglobin levels causing severe anaemia.

Most people with Thalassaemia will need blood 🩸 transfusions. By donating blood you are helping to improve even save lives of those living with the condition.
