Usdaw Union Branch K227 will be at the Bolton Trades Council International Memorial Day Event on Tuesday 28th April to remember all those workers that we have lost who were simply doing their job.

We will be marching with our banner and laying a wreath on the IWMD memorial stone.

Please come along if you can and remember your fellow workers.

Remember the dead, fight for the living!

We would like to extend an invitation to attend the International Workers Memorial Day 2026 Commemoration on Tuesday 28th April 2026.

Every year more people are killed at work than in wars. Most don't die of mystery ailments, or in tragic "accidents". They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn't that important a priority. International Workers Memorial Day commemorates those workers

We are asking people to assemble at 11.50 in front of Bolton Town Hall before falling silent at 12.00.

Following this we will be laying of wreaths beside the IWMD stone and hearing speeches.

We will be marching with banners before this at 11:45 from The Hub in Bolton. If you or your Branches wish to do so they are all welcome march with their banners alongside us.

Please share the event and help us remember all those we have lost.

📢 International Workers’ Memorial Day – Bolton 2026 📢

Join Bolton Trades Union Council for this year’s International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) commemoration.

🗓️ A time to remember those who have lost their lives at work, and to renew our fight for safer workplaces for all.

On the day, we will:
🌹 Lay wreaths in remembrance
🚩 March with our union banners
🕊️ Observe a minute’s silence
🎤 Hear speeches from trade unionists and activists

While many will be attending ADM, this is an important opportunity for those who are available to come together in solidarity and pay tribute.

Let’s show the strength of our movement and ensure that those workers are never forgotten.

Usdaw Branch K227 on Tuesday night held it's April Meeting and as well as normal business chose our nominations for the Usdaw General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary Elections.

We are proud to have nominated Joanne Thomas for General Secretary and Amanda Bailey-Coll for Deputy General Secretary.

The Branch believes that these two comrades have the greatest experience to lead our Union into a great new era for the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, and if elected will oversee our Union growing even stronger and our members better protected.

Thank you to the candidates who responded to our Branch's question & answer form, we are very grateful for your time and we wish you all the best in the remainder of the nomination period.

A Trade Union is organised from the Shop Floor and there is no greater example of that member led organising than members having the right to elect their General Secretary & Deputy General Secretary.Thank you also to Branch Members who took part in the debate and nomination selection.
