I see the Spirit Talker app often get lumped in with a bad crowd. As someone who's spent hours using this app, I still have no reason to believe it's fake in any way. By itself, without getting technical, it's a random word generator. This does not make it fake. When the app is accompanied with other devices, I've found you can highlight potential significant responses.
Now to be a bit more technical, I've seen criticism of this app simply be along the lines of 'how a ghost knows how to use a phone is beyond me'. The spirit isn't using the phone though. It's a common belief that spirits can manipulate environmental factors, such as temperature, and that they can move things. Your phone has sensors in it which detects things such as movement and temperature changes. So, the spirit is doing what people commonly believe they can do and the phone is detecting that through the sensors it contains. The phone then spits out a word based on these readings.
In my own experience, and with using what I know about how the device works, the Spirit Talker app is no different than every other piece of paranormal equipment used by all investigators I see put out videos. It can be misunderstood and it can be misused, but it is by no means fake. If you want to claim it to be misleading because it's called 'spirit talker', then sure; but that doesn't mean it's fake or that spirits can't influence its output.
To properly use this app, I recommend placing it down somewhere stable and sturdy where it won't detect vibrations caused by your own movements. Also, I recommend you use other pieces of equipment alongside it so that you can try to get responses which relate to the activity of those devices. For example, if a cat ball lights up and the app says 'lights' at the same time; brilliant. Or if a rem pod starts giving everyone earache and the app says 'noise'; fantastic. You also have to utilise the fact this app saves each word list. Each word list is not only saved, but it also provides a timestamp for when each word in the list was spoken and it tells you when the investigation started. Make use of this, tally how often it's saying certain words, how often it's repeating words, and most importantly you need to cross reference the data. This means using the app multiple times in the same location and using it multiple times in different locations. Are there patterns, are there not? This is how you should use the app and deem any significance.
If you don't use these tips I've discussed and you're just winging it, then you're just making stuff up on the spot and you're letting previous information you know about a location influence your interpretations of the words the app has provided. Again, this does not make the app fake; it makes the investigators naive and possibly lazy.
