Suffragette City Manchester

Suffragette City Manchester Suffragette City is a fundraising MCR club night held annually to mark International Women’s Day.

We pride ourselves on creating events that are full of positivity, solidarity and mischief. Music is the energy that unifies us, and on our dancefloors you will hear a discerning blend of disco, house, soul, funk, pop, techno, rave and and anything else that buzzes up our amazing crowd, one of the friendliest around. History

Our first ever night was held in 2018 at The Refuge, Manchester, as the

closing party of an exhibition by the same name, curated by Alison Surtees for the charity Manchester Digital Music Archive. The show highlighted the achievements of women in the music industry in Manchester through a series of specially commissioned portraits. The night was a great success and became an annual event held in the same spirit, with women’s talents at its heart. During the pandemic we held a live streamed event from The Carlton Club, which raised £7,500. Fundraising

Each year we have succeeded in raising substantial sums for local grass roots charities through ticket sales and merchandise. Everyone who works on Suffragette City, including DJs, gives their time free of charge to support these worthwhile causes. As well as donating to our carefully chosen organisations, we seek to raise the profile of their work through our promotional efforts. We have supported:

Emmeline’s Pantry
The Proud Trust
Women Asylum Seekers Together in Greater Manchester (WAST)
Keeping our Girls Safe (KOGS)
Contact Hostel
The Pankhurst Trust
Women’s Aid
Saheli Asian Women’s Project
Stockport Without Abuse

Who are we? Suffragette City is curated by DJs Rina Ladybeige (The Social Service), Kath McDermott (BBC 6 Music), Abigail Ward (Constant Buggeration) and Chris Massey (Sprechen/The Carlton Club). We thank Brickhouse/Kable, The Refuge, The Carlton Club and Club Solo for all their support. You can also follow us on:

Suffragette City is a PROTEST and a CELEBRATION. We pride ourselves on creating events for all genders that are full of positivity, solidarity and mischief. Music is the energy that unifies us, and on our dancefloors you will hear a discerning blend of disco, house, soul, funk, pop, techno, rave and anything else that buzzes up our amazing crowd - one of the friendliest around.

We celebrate female and non-binary talent in our city and around the world. We come together to support each other and raise each other up. And we stand against the people in this world who don’t believe in love and kindness to ALL humans.

And we raise much needed funds for grassroots charities in Greater Manchester. The event is run entirely by volunteers, and our DJs give their time for free so every single penny of profit goes to our chosen charities. Thank you to you all for your generosity.

2026 Charity Announcement 📣

Alongside the celebration of women and gender minorities, protesting against injustice and oppression, and bringing people together to dance and have fun, our core aim for Suffragette City is to raise lots of money to support those in our community who need it most.

This year we are proud to be supporting two grassroots charities in Greater Manchester - and

Long term friends of Suffragette City will be familiar with Contact Hostel, who provide accommodation and practical help for homeless teenage girls. Victoria from the charity told us:

“International Women’s Day is incredibly important to us. The impact of this event goes far beyond the day and evening itself, helping us support the young women and teenage girls who rely on us for a safe home, stability, and the chance to build brighter futures.”

Our second charity this year is The River Manchester who support individuals and families fleeing domestic abuse by providing comprehensive resettlement and crisis support.

The money raised will help to establish a specialist peer-to-peer support group for women who have fled domestic abuse and are facing addiction challenges - providing a safe, supportive environment where participants can share experiences, build resilience, address underlying trauma, and receive guidance to support their recovery journey.

Since our first event in 2018 we have raised over £40k and we couldn’t have done this without the support of our promoters, DJs, event staff and partners - all giving their time generously for free and helping us to maximise the money raised. And of course to YOU - our dancers and supporters. Every ticket and merch item bought counts towards our total.

If you are unable to attend or just want to give a little bit extra to our amazing charities - you can do so via our Just Giving link. Thank you 🙏
