Stockwatch update: Water incidents

On several occasions since the beginning of May, people have moved, opened and drained the water bowsers on the Worcestershire Beacon, leaving livestock without access to a drinking source.

We do not know why this is happening- water is vital to grazing livestock and the actions may cause unnecessary suffering to the cattle and sheep. If you see anyone doing this please call our office straight away on 01684 892002.

Cattle and sheep are intrinsic to our land management and help us to maintain our SSSI grasslands, we ask that they are respected and allowed to do so in peace.

Northern Hills- Cattle, ewes and lambs on West Worcestershire Beacon and summer Hill, moving to SE Worcestershire Beacon

Central Hills- Cattle and Sheep on West Pinnacle.

Southern Hills- Sheep may be found freely grazing from British Camp to Gullet Quarry, shortly to be on Broad Down to Shady Bank Common. Cattle on East side of British Camp.

Old Hills- Cattle on the Old Hills. Ponies can be found grazing year-round.

Castlemorton and Hollybed Commons- Cattle and sheep can be found throughout.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to every single person who volunteers with us on the Malvern Hills 💚

Your support helps us care for this iconic landscape and makes a lasting difference for wildlife and for future generations.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering with us- whether regularly or just when you can- we’d love to hear from you. It’s a great way to spend time outdoors, learn new skills and be part of caring for the Hills: https://www.malvernhills.org.uk/get-involved/volunteering/

*Trigger warning: injured lamb*

Yesterday, a lamb was seriously injured after being attacked by a dog off lead on the Hills. The grazier is now caring for the animal and hoping it recovers.

Livestock worrying, including chasing, is a criminal offence. Dogs involved in attacks can be seized and owners may face unlimited fines.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock at all times, even if they are usually well behaved. A long lead still allows plenty of exercise while helping protect grazing animals.

If you witness livestock worrying on the Hills or Commons, please report it to Police on 101 and call the office on 01684 892002 so the grazier can attend quickly.

Help play your part in protecting this iconic landscape for all. Full article here: https://www.malvernhills.org.uk/latest-news/20260603-lamb-attack/

Volunteering is about more than the jobs that get done, it’s also about community 💚

Sue, one of our fab volunteers, shares her perspective on volunteering. Our volunteers have built friendships, shared skills, learned new things and spent time outdoors together in some pretty special places.

Whether you’ve been volunteering with us for years or have only recently joined in- thank you for being part of the Malvern Hills Trust team 🥰
