🚂 Exciting Progress Alert! 🚂

One of our dedicated trustees is making incredible strides with his personal locomotive restoration project. He recently shared an update on his page, highlighting the successful riveting of the smoke box and the beginning stages of crafting new parts for the regulator. Next up, he'll be finishing the regulator and attaching the boiler to the smoke box.

🚂 Big News from Lakeshore Railroad! 🚂 Get ready to hear the whistle blow and feel the rumble of steam once again on Lakeshore's rails! 🌟 We're thrilled to share that steam is making its grand return! 🎉 Let's all hop aboard and celebrate this exciting milestone together! 🎉🚂

🎙 A Return To Steam 🎙

After a far longer than planned hiatus, our traditional steam service is looking like it will finally make it's much anticipated return to Lakeshore metals this coming weekend, the 20th/21st April.

Mountaineer's boiler finally arrived back at the workshop on the 5th April, with reassembly beginning immediately and continuing as you are reading this. From machining bearings and making a new ashpan, to setting the springing and adding the finishing touches to the paintwork; Liam, Michael and Matt have been working around the clock to get her ready for a visit from our boiler inspector tomorrow (Tuesday). If all goes according to plan, Mountaineer will arrive back at the railway on Wednesday to begin running in and final adjustments post-overhaul before re-entering public service on Saturday.

We'll of course keep you posted as to tomorrow's outcome; all our fingers are crossed! 🤞

🚂 Exciting update on the Atlas restoration! We faced a challenge when the wheels wouldn't turn within the frames. After reinforcing the middle beam and adjusting the frames, both wheels are now in motion!

Next up: fitting the boiler and smokebox back plate.
