The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK

The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK is a registered charity in England & Wales (1177635) and Scotland (SO052303). Don't know what IBC is?

Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a rare form of breast cancer with a poorer prognosis that is not typically discovered by mammogram and often occurs prior to standard breast cancer screening age recommendations. Don't feel bad, most people are very uneducated about IBC. Our goal is to bring this "orphaned disease" into the limelight and encourage education and funding of research for this 200 y

ear old form of breast cancer. We need to be educated on this cancer type if we are going to save lives! This is a quick check list of symptoms of IBC which include:

• Breast swelling, where one breast is suddenly larger than the other
• Breast that feels warm to touch and may look infected
• Itching or shooting pain
• A dimpling of the breast skin that looks like an orange peel (peau d’orange)
• Thickening of the skin
• Flattened or discolored ni**le
• Swelling in underarm or only on one side of neck
• Might feel lump, however lumps are not common in IBC. [email protected]" rel="ugc" target="_blank">https://[email protected]

Hey, it’s your monthly breast health check-in! 🧡

Just a quick reminder with to pause, check in with your body, and keep your health on track.

Dimpling or 'orange peel' (peau d'orange) is a main sign of IBC, but don’t forget about the other signs too!

If you notice any changes that don’t feel right, make sure to get it checked by your GP.

Knowing what’s normal for your body really matters! 🧡

Holly and George are running to raise money for The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network - this is a cause close to my heart as has recently affected a member of my family.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer that is not typically discovered by mammogram and often occurs prior to standard screening age recommendations for breast cancer. In the UK it makes up only around 2% of all breast cancers. It can affect both men and women.

Olive’s story reminds us why community matters. Diagnosed with Stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer in 2020, she navigated chemo, mastectomy and the emotional weight of an IBC diagnosis — but she didn’t do it alone.

The IBC Network UK helped her feel hopeful, confident and clear‑headed at a time when everything felt overwhelming. Today, Olive is NED and encouraging others to speak up and seek support.

Her words to anyone facing IBC:
“Stay realistic but hopeful, build a support network, and raise your voice.”

If you’d like to support our charity or share your own IBC story, we’d love to hear from you.

Happy International Nurses Day

Today is a special opportunity to recognise the compassion, skill, and dedication you bring to your work every single day caring for patients with breast cancer. The care you provide goes far beyond treatment — it brings comfort, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

From taking extra time to explain a breast cancer diagnosis, to offering thoughtful words during the most vulnerable moments, and providing a supportive guiding hand throughout treatment, your kindness and reassurance make an immeasurable difference.

Thank you for your tireless commitment, your compassion in difficult moments, and the difference you make in so many lives. You are truly appreciated, today and always.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The IBC Network UK on behalf of IBC patients

Hey 👋 it’s your monthly breast health check‑in.

Make sure you check your breasts regularly and know what is normal for you.

This May, we’re shining a light on mental health and celebrating the incredible nurses who support people affected by inflammatory breast cancer.
Living with or after cancer can take a toll on your emotional wellbeing — and it’s completely valid to feel overwhelmed, anxious or low at times. Checking in with your mental health is just as important as checking your breasts. So this month, take a moment to:
🧡 Check in with your mental health
🍊Reach out if you’re struggling
🧡Thank a nurse who’s made a difference
🍊 Keep getting to know your normal
