The rain held off yesterday and we had a fine day to paint the scruffy concrete wall on platform 2. Thanks to Nick and Heather for getting all the paint ready and to the members of FOBS who cleaned the wall ready for painting. And a big thank you to volunteers from EMR and Network Rail who came to help on the day. A great job efficiently done. Still a bit more to do on the other side when the sun shines again.

We were pleased to attend this event today. The station looked wonderful in the spring sunshine. Although the official work has finished, our work continues. We will be painting the wall on platform 2 in the same cream as the shelters and replacing the current photograph display with railway heritage posters.

Two of the Friends are at Scampston Hall looking for inspiration in their wildlife friendly gardens. The cherry trees are in full flower and are humming with bees. We will be adding to our bee-friendly plants at the station this year.

A railway project called 'Tracks in Time' has been installed on both platforms at Carlton Station. It celebrates the railway heritage of Netherfield and presents the railway's history alongside historical events. It was produced by local volunteers in 2013 using Heritage Lottery Funding. Other materials used in the project have been lodged with the Midland Railway Study Centre.

Today, we visited the Midland Railway Study Centre at The Museum of Making in Derby. We looked at old railway posters, original drawings and plans of Beeston Station, and discovered information about staff who worked there. We hope to use this material for future projects.
We also had a very nice lunch at the River Kitchen cafe!

A short event was held today to celebrate the transformation of the station forecourt. Members of FOBS were present, along with staff from East Midlands Railway and the Executive Director of the Railway Heritage Trust. The new forecourt is looking splendid.

Work has not finished yet. Watch out on platform one if it's raining, as the glass has been removed as part of the restoration of the canopies and shelters.

Happy Christmas from the Friends of Beeston Station.
It's been a busy year, so we're taking a break at The Victoria Hotel. Having a pub at the end of platform 1 has its benefits!

This week we’ve painted the fence and planted the new garden area in the station forecourt. One of our members, Chryse designed the garden, and it will look amazing next year. Thanks to East Midlands Railway for undertaking this project, which we’ve been happy to help with.

The station looked good in the winter sunshine this morning. We took down our display for Remembrance Day and stored it away until next year. In addition we’ve been busy litter picking, leaf sweeping and planting up the half barrels in the station forecourt. We will be planting up the garden area near the bike shed in the next couple of weeks.
