We are still looking to for a sessional counsellor/play therapist to work with children and young people in York.

We are inviting expressions of interest for the role of Sessional Counsellor/Play Therapist to work with children & young people (CYP), who have been the victims of crime, under the Victim Counselling Service, (delivered under a call-off contract with the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire).

Sessional Counsellors/play therapists must be qualified to Diploma level or equivalent, be accredited with the BACP or the UKCP (or equivalent), or eligible to apply, and have relevant training and experience in counselling children and young people.

The role is subject to a DBS check and police vetting check.

The power is back on and the phones are working.

11/08/2026

We have a power cut in our Malton office so are unable to take or make telephone calls. Face to face counselling sessions are going ahead as usual and the power will be back on by midday hopefully (as per Northern Grid). Thank you for your patience.

We are delighted to have received a generous grant of £600 from the Malton & Norton Lions Club. This donation, together with funding received through the Tesco Stronger Starts Grant Programme, will help fund a further month of counselling support for local children and young people.

At a time when demand for mental health and emotional wellbeing support continues to grow, contributions such as these make a real difference. They help ensure that children and young people across Ryedale can access the counselling they need, when they need it

As it is Men's Mental Health Week, we are taking the opportunity to talk about the 27% Project, which is a free counselling service for men and individuals identifying as men, funded by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. Counselling is available in person in Pickering and Malton, and over the phone and online.

You may be wondering about the title '27% Project'? When putting together our funding application we found that only 27% of our clients were male (this is in line with the national average). Research also shows that men are less likely to try and access mental health support despite large numbers struggling with their mental health as evidenced by the disproportionate number of male suicides. By offering this project we hope to to encourage more men to get the help they need.

See our website www.community-counselling.org.uk for more information including other services we offer.
