Mallaig to Armadale Skye service update – Additional vessel support confirmed

CalMac Ferries has advised that the Mallaig–Armadale (Skye) service will be impacted by vessel redeployment from 27 March to 8 April 2026. While it’s disappointing that vehicle capacity will be greatly reduced during part of the Easter holidays, the good news is that local charter vessels will step in to keep the route running.

To support the service during this period, two vessels will provide vehicle and foot passenger sailings from Mallaig to Armadale and Armadale to Mallaig:

MV Shearwater – carrying up to 80 foot passengers.
Miss Marley – carrying 6 cars and 12 passengers.

These vessels will operate until the MV Coruisk expected return to service on 8 April. Bookings can be made directly through the CalMac booking office in Mallaig or Armadale.
Mallaig 📞 01687 310240 and choose option 2 to book.
Armadale 📞 01471 250090 and choose option 2.
Early booking for the car service is advisable, due to limited capacity on each sailing.

We’ll continue to work closely with CalMac throughout these disruptions and will share updates as they become available.

🙏 A huge thank you to our local charter providers for stepping in to help CalMac maintain this vital service during the busy Easter period.

Service Update Mallaig - Armadale RED

Tuesday 10 March

Due to adverse weather, service is cancelled.

06/03/2026

The ferry fiasco continues.

CalMac has confirmed there will be no ferry service between Mallaig and Armadale from 27 March to 11 April, right over the Easter holidays.

Do the Scottish Government have any idea what damage they’ve done to remote west coast communities by failing to commission replacement ferries? The Mallaig, Arisaig and South Sleat communities will be massively impacted, and the Easter holidays are crucial for local hospitality and retail businesses.

At the same time, businesses are already worried about delays to the recommencement of the Jacobite steam train, and I’m still waiting to hear back from Transport Minister Fiona Hyslop after writing about the aged ScotRail train serving Mallaig. I’m sure the ferry issue is sitting in her in-tray too. She’s due to step down in May, I can only assume she has clocked off already.

I’ve asked CalMac for an explanation for this disastrous redeployment. My constituents should not be left high and dry.
As Andrew Baxter has also said, connectivity in the West is essential - but our roads, rail services and ferries are all in a terrible state. With a £3.5 billion transport budget, it’s clear the Highlands are not getting their fair share.
