💚 Sometimes a Saturday breakfast goes a little further than Saturday morning.

Yesterday we took a hot homemade cottage pie, kindly cooked by Hearts and Hampers, to a young guy living by the river.

And there was something that really struck us.

He was wearing clothes that had been donated to Breakfast Buddies on Saturday.

So in the space of a couple of days, we've gone from someone donating clothes, Charlotte cooking a wonderful meal, to us delivering a hot meal to someone who needed it.

That's community in action. 💚

The cottage pie was still hot when we arrived, and it was lovely to be able to check in and make sure he was safe with something proper to eat.

A huge thank you to Hearts and Hampers for the cottage pie, it smelt so good, and to Michelle for the donated clothes that helped too.

It might look like a few bags of donations, a meal or a couple of hours of volunteering.

But behind each one is a person who needed a little help.

And that's why we keep doing what we do. 💚

💚 A little thank you to Nicola Souper 💚

When we told you about one of our Buddies whose tent had been attacked and his belongings stolen, Nicola didn’t hesitate. She messaged us straight away and asked, “What does he need?”

And rather than deciding for him, she literally let him give her a list.

All he wanted was a thermal top for the winter and some plastic food containers. That’s it.

He’s determined to do as much as he can for himself, and we think that says a lot about him.

Nicola, thank you for not only getting exactly what he asked for, but for adding those extra thoughtful bits too. Those little touches mean so much, especially when someone is trying to rebuild after a really difficult experience.

We’re incredibly grateful for your kindness and continued support. 💚

This is what our community does so beautifully, care out loud instead of from a distance.

🌧️ 60 meals were ready... and they were needed. 💚

The rain certainly didn't stop anyone this Saturday!

So many people arrived hungry and in need of a hot meal, but also a bit of community spirit, a friendly face and somewhere to spend the morning.

And what a feast we had ready! 😋

🥯 Bacon and cream cheese bagels
🌭 Sausage rolls, with sausages kindly donated by Q Catering
🍳 Fresh tomato, basil and three cheese omelettes, or plain omelettes for those who preferred to keep it simple!
🥔 Spicy potatoes or Beef Oxo coated potatoes
🫘 Beans and tinned tomatoes

Plus our usual freshly made sandwiches and packed lunches to take away for later.

What a feast!

It's quite crazy to think that just two years ago we were lucky to have 12 people come along.

Now our numbers are growing all the time.

We are incredibly proud to welcome and serve every single person who comes to us. 💚

And Saturday was about far more than food.

Thanks to our amazing sponsors and donors, we were able to provide emergency items that we keep stored in our van, including sanitary products, plates and cutlery, dog food, cat food, water, blankets, wipes, shaving items and shower gel.

We also welcomed people who had recently become homeless, as well as a family in need, and were able to signpost them towards further support.

For anyone newly homeless in Maidstone, Maidstone Day Centre and are a really important first port of call, offering advice, guidance and support to help people find the right next steps.

We were also able to provide one gentleman with a tent and towels when he needed shelter, thanks to the generous donations we receive.

And a special thank you to our lovely volunteer Salsey Mour, who donated some much needed cat food. 🐱💚

Every Saturday reminds us why community matters.

Two years ago, we started with a small idea and a handful of people.

Now, when the rain comes down and all the hungry people turn up, we're ready to welcome them.

And we'll keep doing everything we can to make sure there's food, kindness and support waiting. 💚

Apparently, a normal omelette wasn't good enough this week.

🎉 COUNTING DOWN TO 2 YEARS OF BREAKFAST BUDDIES! 🎉💚

It started with an idea... but it takes people to make it happen.

When Breakfast Buddies first began, we had no idea just how many people would become part of the journey.

Two years later, we have over 20 volunteers, all giving their time, energy and skills to make Saturday mornings happen.

Some are collecting food before most people are awake. 🚐

Some are unloading the van and setting up.

Some are cooking breakfasts, making hot drinks and preparing food.

Some are making freshly prepared sandwiches, sorting food and filling Meal Deals.

Some are chatting to our Buddies, carrying plates, washing up, packing away, driving around and doing all those little jobs that nobody really notices... until they don't get done! 😂

And that's before we even mention the work that goes on during the week.

Our volunteers have become a real team, and many of them have become good friends too.

One of the things we're most proud of is that one of our Buddies has recently asked to become a volunteer themselves.

Someone who came to us for support now wants to be part of helping others.

That feels like a pretty special way to celebrate our second birthday. 💚

2 years. Over 20 volunteers. Hundreds of Saturday mornings. Countless acts of kindness.

And we're only getting started.

🎉 COUNTING DOWN TO 2 YEARS OF BREAKFAST BUDDIES! 🎉💚

Two years ago, Breakfast Buddies started with a simple idea.

The idea came from our co-founder, Jane, and her work supporting people affected by alcohol. A hot breakfast and an earlier meal in the day can sometimes help delay that first drink. But it quickly became clear that Breakfast Buddies was about so much more than food.

Community matters.

Having somewhere to go. Seeing familiar faces. Having a chat. Feeling welcome. Being part of something.

For many of our Buddies, that sense of connection is just as important as the breakfast itself.

And look how far we've come...

💚 A growing community of people looking out for one another

What started as an idea has grown into something we are incredibly proud of.

But we're not finished yet.

As we count down to our 2nd Birthday Quiz Night on Thursday 10th September, we'll be looking back at some of our favourite moments, celebrating the people who helped us get here, and sharing just how much Breakfast Buddies has grown.

💚 A huge shout out to Charlotte at Hearts and Hampers!

Last week, Charlotte kindly donated these amazing lunch bags for our Buddies, and she didn't stop at providing the bags.

Every single one had already been lovingly filled with homemade biscuits, crisps and fruit. 🍪🍎

All we needed to do was add one of our freshly made, made to order sandwiches, and our Buddies had a lovely packed lunch ready to take away.

They went down an absolute treat! We loved seeing the bags being carried away with such joy.

Sometimes it's the little things, and the extra thought and care that goes into them, that make such a difference.

Thank you, Charlotte, for your kindness, generosity and for always thinking of others. Our Buddies absolutely loved them. 💚

A perfect example of what happens when people come together to help one another.
