With those chilly starts this week, we knew our Buddies would appreciate a nice hot drink and some warm food. ☕️💚

Today it was Cumberland sausages in a hot dog roll or bacon in a soft bap. And the sausages were definitely the winner! 🌭

Alongside that, we had hash brown omelette slices, garlic and thyme potatoes and beans, with our Buddies able to choose whatever combination they fancied.

We also had 5 coats to give out, along with dog food and cat food, all generously donated. 🧥🐾

We had some lovely things donated by Debbie too, including little bags of dog treats for our Buddies' best mates. She even got to give one directly to a very cute little pup called Dave. A dog treat, some kind words and a good stroke, not a bad Saturday morning for Dave! 🐶💚

Lidl UK really helped fill our tables with delicious treats this week, and donations from Sainsbury's brought plenty of joy too, with flowers and cakes. 🌸🍰

And, of course, a huge thank you to all our volunteers. You give up your Saturday mornings to be here, and we really do appreciate every one of you.

A special shout out this week to Tracey, who took some of the washing up home.

💚 Why don’t we call ourselves a “homeless charity”?

It’s something we get asked from time to time.

The simple answer is, because not everyone who needs Breakfast Buddies is homeless.

Some of our Buddies are sleeping rough. Some are in temporary accommodation. Some have a place to live but are struggling with food, money or isolation. Some have found themselves in a difficult patch of life and need a bit of support for a while.

But there’s another reason too.

There can be a lot of stigma attached to the word “homeless”.

For some people, being given that label can feel like their circumstances have become their identity. It can change the way people look at them, talk to them, or make assumptions about them before they’ve even had the chance to say hello.

We don’t want that.

We don’t want someone arriving at Breakfast Buddies to feel that they have to explain themselves, prove they are homeless, or feel that everyone now sees them through one label.

That’s why we chose Breakfast Buddies.

You don’t have to explain your situation before you can sit down with us. You don’t have to prove that you need help. You’re not given a label when you walk through the car park.

You’re a Buddy. 💚

Come and have some breakfast. Sit down. Have a cuppa. Have a chat. Take what you need. Stay for five minutes or stay a little longer.

We want Breakfast Buddies to feel like a community, not a service for “those people”.

Because circumstances can change very quickly. And needing a bit of help doesn’t define who you are.

No labels. No judgement. Just people, food and a place to feel welcome. 💚

Every Saturday, 10am, College Road Car Park, Maidstone.

We're not a normal soup kitchen 💚

There isn't a strict queueing system.

You don't have to stand around waiting for your turn.

You don't get handed a plate and sent on your way.

We have tables and chairs, so people can sit down and eat.

Our Buddies choose what they'd like from what's available, we take their order, plate their food and bring it over.

There's a cup of tea, a chat, maybe a few laughs, and usually someone remembering your name.

It's an outdoor café, rather than a traditional soup kitchen.

No doors.

No judgement.

No rushing people through.

Just good food, a warm welcome and somewhere to sit for a while.

That's Breakfast Buddies. 💚

Meet Jules 💚
Yoga and Meditation with Jules

You wanted to meet more of the people behind Breakfast Buddies, so here she is!

Jules loves yoga, nature and animals, and has a big heart for all beings. She’s also our champion bean collector 🫘 and always seems to have a great idea when it comes to fundraising.

She loves getting involved, getting stuck in and, most importantly, having a proper chat with our Buddies. Her counselling training is nearly finished too, so we’re looking forward to adding that qualification to her list of talents!

We’re very lucky to have you, Jules. 💚

💚 Meet Youcef

Our brilliant Helper

So grateful to have Youcef as part of the Breakfast Buddies family.

He never stops working and is always looking around for something else he can do. Whether it’s helping with the practical jobs, keeping things moving or making sure everyone has a cuppa, he’s always there.

Happy, enthusiastic and full of energy, Youcef is one of the family now.

And he makes a great cup of tea! ☕️

A friendly face, a helping hand and a lovely person to have around every Saturday.

📦 More deliveries today! 📦

Look at all these treats and snacks for our Buddies, plus some much needed bits to top up our toiletries. 💚

Every single package makes a difference. Whether it’s a big delivery or a little box through the post, we really, really appreciate every one.

A huge thank you to CT and Rachael Velvick for your kindness and generosity. 💚

You’re helping us keep the cupboards stocked and make sure our Buddies have plenty of choice when they visit us on a Saturday.

Every little helps, and we are so grateful. 💚

We always make sure there’s a little extra food for our volunteers too. 💚

They give up their Saturday mornings freely, turning up early, cooking, serving, chatting, washing up and doing all the little jobs that make Breakfast Buddies happen.

So when there’s a spare sausage, an extra bap or a plate of those much loved potatoes, our volunteers get fed too! 😂

It’s one small way we can say thank you for giving up your time, energy and weekends to be here.

And this week, we’re celebrating Nicola! 💚

Nicola takes the orders, knows everyone’s names, always has time for a quick chat and somehow makes everyone feel special. She’s always smiling, incredibly encouraging, and of course, she LOVES the sausages! 🌭😂

Everyone knows Nicola, and we’re very lucky to have her as part of our Breakfast Buddies family.

Thank you Nicola, and thank you to every one of our amazing volunteers. 💚

A very lovely Amazon delivery arrived today! 📦💚

A huge thank you to Siobhan and Claire for sending us such a brilliant bundle of goodies.

We received lots of snacks, shampoo and hot chocolate, all things that we were getting really low on, so the timing couldn’t have been better!

Our Amazon Wishlist really does help us keep track of the things we need, and every order makes a difference to our Saturday mornings.

Thank you both so much for thinking of our Buddies and helping us keep the cupboards stocked. 💚
