What a brilliant day yesterday at the Kent & Medway Environmental Funding Conference at Shorne Woods Country Park 🌿

We were delighted to bring together 19 voluntary sector organisations from across Kent and Medway - from community gardens and mental health charities to youth groups, faith organisations and environmental projects. The shared passion in the room was inspiring, with a real buzz throughout the day as people connected, collaborated and exchanged ideas.

The conference created space to learn, grow and build partnerships, with highlights including:

🌱 Insightful sessions on funding for climate action, biodiversity and community energy
🤝 The opportunity to meet funders and access 1-to-1 advice
🌍 Workshops on collaboration and embedding EDI into environmental projects
🍃 Inspiring talks on green social prescribing, community spaces and foraging

A huge thank you to Kent Country Parks Kent County Council for hosting us at the beautiful Shorne Woods Country Park – the perfect setting for a day focused on strengthening our environmental future.

Thanks also to our fantastic speakers and exhibitors: Abbey Physic Community Garden, Kent Country Parks, Kent Community Energy, Kent Community Foundation, Dandelion Time, Forestry Commission, Explore Kent and Miles Irving for sharing their expertise and insights. Another huge thank you to National Lottery players, for enabling The National Lottery Community Fund to make this day possible through their funding.

It was clear that shared goals united us, and the energy in the room showed just how much potential there is across our sector. We can’t wait to see the exciting projects, partnerships and impact that grow from the conversations and connections made 💚

📣 Funder spotlight: The National Lottery Community Fund

Have you spotted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recently updated its website to clearly set out its four community‑led missions:

👥 Communities come together
👧 Communities help children and young people thrive
🩷 Communities are healthier
🌍 Communities are environmentally sustainable

It’s this fourth mission, 'Communities are Environmentally Sustainable', that their team will be exploring in more detail at the Kent & Medway Environmental Funding Conference on 14th May, 10am-3pm at Shorne Woods Country Park in Gravesend.

This mission focuses on funding projects that “protect nature, reduce environmental harm and help communities respond to climate change.” At the conference, The National Lottery Community Fund will explore the outcomes they want to see from projects aligned with this mission.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak directly with Funding Officers about project ideas, future applications, and how environmental work rooted in community need can be supported.

If you’re developing, or thinking about, an environmentally focused project with community impact, this is a valuable chance to gain insight and start meaningful funding conversations.
