Cake, conversation and crafting at the community centre this afternoon.

The Maidenhead Deaf Social Group celebrated its first anniversary with sparkle, glitter and delicious treats to mark the occasions. Members shared their experiences, including how they get on with hearing aids and cochlear implant equipment.

Alongside them, Michelle and her Communi-crafters were putting the finishing touches to the Windsor Community Poppy Project. It was lovely to have both groups sharing the room, with plenty going on and time to chat.

The Deaf Social Group meets monthly in the café and welcomes deaf and hard of hearing people, BSL users and non-deaf partners. Chloe has asked us to share her contact details for anyone interested in joining: [email protected].

Happy first anniversary to the group and happy birthday, Phil!

This Saturday, Michelle and the volunteers supporting the Windsor Community Poppy Project will be sewing poppies in preparation for this year's display. Michelle is the brilliant outreach coordinator from Craft Coop that has run many creative projects in Maidenhead to make people smile - so we are happy to host them here from 10am-2pm - she normally has us 'in stitches'...! So if you are able to donate an hour or so to join in this project, that would be much appreciated. In the event of any queries, email [email protected]

🏠 The clubhouse demolition is on pause

RBWM has paused the demolition of the Golf Club clubhouse, which was due to start on Monday. Our solicitors had written to the council setting out why demolition could not lawfully happen because of errors made in the planning process.

The council says it will now engage with the groups that had expressed an interest in the building. We have asked that it starts with an open day, so that every interested community group can see inside the building.

We'd like to give special thanks to two residents, James Camplin and Andrew Hill, who spent last week going through the planning documents and decision notices, and showed us exactly where the council had got things wrong. Without them the clubhouse would still be facing demolition on Monday.

⚠️ However...

The clubhouse is still at risk:

▪️RBWM has said it intends to put the missing approvals in place.

▪️The decision to demolish still stands and nothing has been said about reversing it yet.

▪️Please sign and share our petition until the demolition is cancelled not just "paused":

🏌️ Update on the golf course clubhouse 🏠

This morning our lawyers wrote to RBWM about the demolition, due to start on Monday.

We have asked for a written promise by 3pm today that it will not start knocking the building down while our questions are answered. The main questions are these:

1️⃣ The planning permission for the golf course says nothing can be demolished until the council has approved a plan for managing the works, and we can find no record that it has.
2️⃣ The two decisions to demolish were taken in May and July but only made public in September, marked in a way that stopped councillors questioning them.
3️⃣ Our offer in May to run the building for the community was never discussed with us.

We wrote to the council in May. We heard nothing until 23 September, and found out about Monday's start date from a letter sent to residents on 29 September.

The clubhouse is a sound building, officially listed as an Asset of Community Value, on a part of the site that will not be built on until the 2030s. We believe we could run it as a community building until then.

More than 700 people have signed the petition in a few days; if you have not, please take a look at

🚨 URGENT: THE CLOCK IS NOW TICKING FOR MAIDENHEAD’S FORMER GOLF CLUBHOUSE
Residents living near the former Maidenhead Golf Club have today received a letter from RBWM confirming that contractors have been appointed and that site clearance and demolition activity is due to begin on Monday 5 October.

That leaves just days to make our voices heard.

Maidenhead Community Centre has put forward an expression of interest in using the former clubhouse as a community venue while the wider site is developed, rather than seeing a potentially valuable community asset demolished.

The council’s own published decision confirms that enquiries from community groups about temporary use of the buildings were considered, but rejected on cost grounds. The decision to proceed with demolition was taken earlier this year and published on 2 September. Windsor and Maidenhead Council

We are asking for one thing: proper discussion before an irreversible decision becomes an irreversible action. Once the clubhouse is gone, this opportunity is gone with it.

Please sign the petition now and share it widely. We have very little time.

🏡 Could the former Maidenhead Golf Club clubhouse have a new life as a community space?

Maidenhead Community Centre has submitted an expression of interest in operating the former golf clubhouse for community use while the wider site is developed.

The vision is for a flexible, affordable space that could host community groups and classes, charity meetings, arts and rehearsals, family events, private celebrations and potentially a community café and bar.

RBWM has approved demolition of the clubhouse. A new petition is asking the council to enter into formal discussions with Maidenhead Community Centre about the proposal and to take no irreversible action while it is being considered.

The petition sets out the proposal and the reasons behind it. If you live in Maidenhead, please take a few minutes to read it and make up your own mind.

Please share so that more local residents are aware of the proposal.

We are very grateful to the amazing GoodGym Windsor and Maidenhead for brightening up our cafe area with a lick of paint!

A great team effort, with a dozen people all working together enthusiastically. It was lovely to see other users of the centre taking an interest in the work and asking about joining the GoodGym team. This is our vision for a community centre that brings people together!
