A place where everyone can play 💙

Some of our supported children recently had the most wonderful day out at Thomley Hall Centre, making the most of everything the amazing site has to offer.

From flying through the air on an adapted zip wire, bouncing on the jumping pillow, relaxing in the sensory room, or getting up close with some amazing reptiles, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone at Thomley Hall for making us feel so welcome and for providing such an inclusive, fun-filled day for our children.

Just your average day at Alexander Devine! 🏍️

Our latest summer sibling day was a busy one, starting with a very special visit from Thames Valley Harley Owners Group.

The children had the best time chatting to the riders about their bikes, getting the chance to sit on them, and even rev the engines!

Then in the afternoon, our amazing Gardening Club volunteers, Martin and Silvia, led a creative session where the children made their own lavender bags and terrariums to take home.

A huge thank you to Thames Valley Harley Owners Group and Martin and Silvia for giving our siblings another fun day full of new experiences!

Today is ! 📸

We’re incredibly lucky to have talented photographers like Lily Glover, who volunteer their time to capture the special moments here are our local children's hospice service.

Lily has volunteered with us for over 13 years, capturing everything from our annual fun days and Christmas parties, to fundraising events, as well as supporting our memory making by taking family photos for families staying in our bereavement suite.

These photos can mean so much to families, giving them memories of time spent together that they can treasure for years to come.

Here are some of Lily’s wonderful photos from our Summer Fun Day a few weeks ago!

Meet one of our amazing fundraisers, Jags, who is taking part in the London ‘Big Half’ Marathon on Sunday 6th September to raise funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

For Jags, this challenge is personal. He is running for Amber, and for the hospice that has become such an important part of Amber and her family’s life.

He is also no stranger to a challenge - playing in the England Hockey National League and representing England at international level.

Jags’ shares in his own words why Amber is his reason why:
“Just over four years ago, Amber and her mum Paven came into my life and changed it forever.

Amber lives with complex, life-limiting needs, but she has shown me what true courage and strength looks like. Her strength, resilience and ability to find joy, even on the hardest days, inspire me more than words can ever express. She is, quite simply, my reason why.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service doesn’t just care for children; they care for entire families. They have given Amber opportunities to smile, play and simply be a child, all while surrounding us with kindness, compassion and unwavering support. They have become an incredibly important part of Amber’s life, and for that we will always be grateful.

This September, I’ll be running the London Half Marathon for Alexander Devine because I want to give something back to the charity that has done so much for Amber. Every mile I run will be for Amber, for everything she has taught me about love, resilience and perspective, and for every family who deserves the same extraordinary care and support that we have been so fortunate to receive by the hospice.

If sharing Amber’s story helps raise awareness, inspires others to support this incredible hospice or enables another family to create precious memories together, then every step will have been worth it.”

We’re so grateful to Jags for taking on this challenge and helping raise vital funds for the children and families we support.

Good luck Jags! We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. 💙

Can you help us stock up on prizes? 🛍️

Our mystery bags are always a favourite at our community fairs, but our shelves are looking a little bare!

We’re looking for unwanted gifts and new, unused items that we can use for our mystery bags and raffles. The prizes can be suitable for children or adults. Think toiletries, candles, toys, games, stationery, and other items that someone would be happy to take home!

If you have anything you could donate, you can drop it into the blue donation box outside our hospice building, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm.

Every donation helps us raise vital funds to support local children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families. Thank you! 💙

Circus skills in the morning, music and yoga in the afternoon! 🎪🎶

Our supported siblings enjoyed another day of fun today, starting with a circus skills workshop led by the amazing The Flying Seagull Project and followed by an afternoon of music and yoga led by our Physiotherapist, Petra, and Music Therapist, Minna.

A huge thank you to The Flying Seagull Project, Petra and Minna, Liz, Gemma and Priya from our Play Team, and our Care volunteers Silvia and Liz for making it such a wonderful afternoon for the children.

Stay tuned for more fun next week!

👉 Swipe to see some of the photos from another day of fun for our supported siblings!

First up, we were joined by Darwin's Kingdom and their amazing reptiles! There was plenty of excitement as the children got to learn about and meet tortoises, frogs, lizards and even a boa constrictor snake.

The afternoon was all about getting creative with wonderful team from TSP who led a mosaic coaster workshop. Each of the children designed and created their very own unique coaster to take home.

A huge thank you to Darwin's Kingdom and The Social Partnership (TSP) for helping make the day so special!
