Meet one of our amazing fundraisers, Jags, who is taking part in the London ‘Big Half’ Marathon on Sunday 6th September to raise funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
For Jags, this challenge is personal. He is running for Amber, and for the hospice that has become such an important part of Amber and her family’s life.
He is also no stranger to a challenge - playing in the England Hockey National League and representing England at international level.
Jags’ shares in his own words why Amber is his reason why:
“Just over four years ago, Amber and her mum Paven came into my life and changed it forever.
Amber lives with complex, life-limiting needs, but she has shown me what true courage and strength looks like. Her strength, resilience and ability to find joy, even on the hardest days, inspire me more than words can ever express. She is, quite simply, my reason why.
Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service doesn’t just care for children; they care for entire families. They have given Amber opportunities to smile, play and simply be a child, all while surrounding us with kindness, compassion and unwavering support. They have become an incredibly important part of Amber’s life, and for that we will always be grateful.
This September, I’ll be running the London Half Marathon for Alexander Devine because I want to give something back to the charity that has done so much for Amber. Every mile I run will be for Amber, for everything she has taught me about love, resilience and perspective, and for every family who deserves the same extraordinary care and support that we have been so fortunate to receive by the hospice.
If sharing Amber’s story helps raise awareness, inspires others to support this incredible hospice or enables another family to create precious memories together, then every step will have been worth it.”
We’re so grateful to Jags for taking on this challenge and helping raise vital funds for the children and families we support.
Good luck Jags! We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. 💙
