Got preloved furniture or homeware looking for a new home? Bring it along to Cookham Dean Primary School and help give it a second life. Wondering what we can accept? Visit our website to see the quality furniture and homeware we love to sell in our stores 👉 https://www.thameshospice.org.uk/donate-goods/

After a fantastic response from residents at our first Preloved to Reloved event earlier this year, we’re inviting residents to once again pass on unwanted good-quality items to Thames Hospice and The Baby Bank and help give them a second life.

Join us on Saturday 20 June from 10am to 2pm at Cookham Dean Primary School, where residents can donate good quality, clean and usable household items for free, including:
• Tables and chairs
• Cabinets and chests of drawers
• Small working electricals
• Cots and cribs
• White school shirts and polo shirts
• General household items

This Carers Week, we're recognising the vital role carers play every day.

Jane is a carer for her husband, Brian, and together they attend the Day Therapy Programme at Thames Hospice. The programme has become an important part of their routine, providing a chance to connect with others, share experiences and take a break from the challenges that caring can bring.

Jane said:
"It's nice because you don't talk about illnesses all the time. We discuss everything. At home it's just us two, so coming here gives us a break, a chance to meet other people and have conversations beyond caring. It really does make a big difference."

The Day Therapy Programme offers a welcoming space where patients and carers can spend time together, meet others who understand their experiences and enjoy meaningful social connections.

Claire’s husband, Alan, was cared for by Thames Hospice 💙

“After Alan came to the Hospice it wasn’t long before our daughter’s 13th birthday. She would ask me, “Is he going to still be alive for my birthday?” And I just didn’t know. Alan did hold on. It was good to all be together and I’m so pleased we had that time before Alan died. I don’t think he would have been with us if it wasn’t for the care at the Hospice, I really don’t. He was a fighter, but it was only because of the help he had, and all that medicine he had to help him, that we had that time.”

The sun is shining, the water is calling, and it's set to be a truly splendid day this Sunday for our Open Water Swim event! ☀️🌊

We are so excited to have a record number of you diving in, and we’re incredibly grateful for your support. Every stroke you take helps us continue our vital work, and we can’t thank you enough for your amazing fundraising efforts and support 💚

We’re also especially proud to have lots of our Thames Hospice staff taking part this year. It means so much to see our community come together to support the staff who help deliver our work every day so if you’d like to cheer them on and all of the 2026 swimmers you can show your support and donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/thameshospiceopenwaterswim26

Wish all of our swimmers good luck by leaving a splash in the comments! 💦👏

This Carers Week, we’re also recognising the carers within our own Thames Hospice team.

Many people balance their working lives alongside caring responsibilities at home, often quietly and without recognition.

Mel, our Counselling and Support Services Manager, shared her experience of supporting a loved one while continuing to work at Thames Hospice, and the importance of understanding, flexibility and compassion in the workplace.

"When I speak to carers, I often wonder how on earth they manage. It’s so important to remind them that it’s okay to take some time for themselves, none of us can run effectively on a flat battery. Carers focus on the individual they are supporting and can easily forget, or fail to recognise, their own needs, and we need to be alert to this.

What has really helped me is those moments of awareness from others who realise I might be overwhelmed by demands when I haven’t yet recognised this myself. The compassion, kindness and flexibility shown by my colleagues in those times give me breathing space and can prevent longer-term burnout from occurring."

At Thames Hospice, a supportive culture means recognising the whole person behind every role.

To all carers, at home, in our communities and within our teams, thank you.

The Royal Windsor Flower Show may be over for another year, but its impact is still blooming 🌿💚

This week, many of the beautiful plants from our show garden ‘Garden of Hope’ have been replanted in our Hospice gardens, where they’ll continue to bring colour, comfort and enjoyment to patients, families, volunteers and colleagues.

A huge thank you to Creepers Nursery and the many volunteers who helped carefully replant everything at the Hospice and create a lasting legacy from this year’s Show.

“Sometimes people come here and say, ‘don’t worry about me, focus on the patient.’ But carers need support too.”

This Carers Week, we’re sharing Anne’s story and highlighting the support available for family carers at Thames Hospice.

After caring for her husband Phil for many years, Anne accessed counselling and complementary therapy support through Thames Hospice.

“For the first time in a decade, I feel emotionally calm, relaxed and listened to.”

Our Complementary Therapy Team, Caroline and Catherine, support patients and loved ones through therapies including reflexology, massage and relaxation treatments, creating space for people to pause, breathe and feel cared for too.

“People often put on a brave face for doctors or family, but here they can just let go a little.”

Carers so often focus entirely on the person they love, but support for carers matters too.

Because hospice care is about supporting the whole family.
