The Historic Towns Trust is delighted to announce the publication of new historical maps of Brecon and Hay-on-Wye.

These beautifully detailed maps explore the development of two historic Welsh border towns from the Norman period onwards, revealing traces of castles, priories, medieval marketplaces and changing streetscapes over centuries of history.

Our map of Cambridge shows the city’s history over nearly two millennia, from Roman times to the 20th century, giving equal prominence to Town and University.

The map incorporates the latest archaeological findings to illuminate what lies under the present townscape.

In this illustrated talk at The Museum of Cambridge, editor Tony Kirby will explain how the map was produced and how it fits into a long tradition of Cambridge maps.

Our marvellous Chair, Professor Vanessa Harding, will be giving the Presidential Address next Tuesday for the London & Middlesex Archaeological Society. She's talking about our most ambitious project yet — mapping London on the eve of the Great Fire in 1666. Make sure you don't miss out!

The LAMAS AGM and Presidential Address will be held next Tuesday 10th February 6pm at the Alan Baxter Gallery, 75 Cowcross Street, EC1M 6EL, and online. Nearest station is Farringdon. Our outgoing President Vanessa Harding, Emeritus Professor of London History at Birkbeck, History, Classics and Archaeology, Birkbeck, University of London will give her talk on mapping Restoration London, on the eve of the Great Fire of 1666. The Fire itself, while destroying four-fifths of the walled city, generated plentiful documentation that allows quite detailed reconstruction of most of the burnt areas, as well as the whole of London. Vanessa will report on progress, challenges encountered, decisions made, and provide first glimpses of the finished product with the Historic Towns Trust
