🍽️ VOLUNTEER COOKS & CHEFS NEEDED 🍽️

FoodShare is looking for experienced cooks, chefs, or confident home cooks to join our community café cooking team.

We provide a warm meal for around 20 people in our community café on Wednesday evenings, and we are looking for volunteers who would enjoy being part of a rota system helping make that happen.

🕒 Time commitment:
Approximately 2 hours a month,
Wednesdays from around 3:30pm to 5:30 pm

👨‍🍳 What we are looking for:
• Someone confident and independent in a kitchen
• Able to come in and begin the cooking process before the main volunteer team arrives
• Comfortable preparing a simple meal for around 20 people
• Friendly, reliable and community-minded

This role would really suit:
• chefs
• retired caterers
• experienced cooks
• confident home cooks who enjoy cooking for others

You would not be expected to do this every week. The role would work as part of a rota, so even occasional help would make a huge difference.

❤️ Good food brings people together, and these meals mean far more than just a plate of food to many people who attend.

If you may be interested in helping, please send us an email.

This week, FoodShare urgently needs: Cooking Sauces

We are genuinely worried about the growing food crisis facing so many local families.

Our shelves are lower than we can ever remember, and every week we are seeing more people coming through our doors who are working, trying their absolute best, but simply cannot keep up with the rising cost of living.

With the school holidays approaching, we know the pressure on families will only increase. A simple jar of cooking sauce may not seem like much, but to a struggling family, it can mean proper meals on the table for several days.

We are asking the community, if you possibly can, please help us start rebuilding our food stocks now before the summer holiday demand hits even harder. Even donating just one item a week can make a real difference to somebody facing a crisis.

Thank you for continuing to stand beside local families when they need it most ❤❤

The items we desperately need are:
* Cooking sauces
* Tinned meat
* Tea bags
* Small rice packs
* Long-life essentials
* Family meal basics

A group of volunteers from Foodshare helped celebrate the Festival of Colours, or Holi at Oaken Grove Park in Maidenhead last weekend.

Holi is a major festival in the Hindu calendar which marks the start of spring and sees visitors showered in colourful paint powders known as gulal.

The Foodshare stall was in the thick of the action as DJ Bhav pumped out his music to the crowd, with more than 500 people showered in colourful paint powders. Our volunteers entertained young and old festival goers with a range of games while explaining our charity’s operations in the town.

The festival was organised by the Sanatan Parivar (TSP), which is dedicated to working with local groups and charities. There was a wonderful atmosphere, and we were thrilled to have been invited.

Thanks to the Foodshare volunteers who gave up their Sunday afternoon, and we hope they managed to get the colours out of their hair and clothes! 🫶

Schools Out at FoodShare!

One of our long-serving volunteers, Kevin, also works with ABC To Read, a Berkshire charity supporting children’s reading. While at St Luke’s Junior School in Maidenhead, he noticed FoodShare listed among the local charities the school supports and met with Headteacher Mrs Stevenson to discuss pupils visiting the foodbank.

During January and February, pupils from Years 5 and 6 (aged 9–11) visited the FoodShare facility at Reform Road for one-hour tours each Friday. Each visit included 12 pupils and two teachers. They learned how FoodShare operates, how people access support through vouchers, and why the service is vital to the local community.

Pupils then became volunteers themselves, helping to sort donated food. The enthusiasm was electric, and everyone got fully involved.

The visits were so successful that Mrs Stevenson organised a non-uniform day, with pupils asked to donate food to the foodbank. On their next visit, pupils brought donations and sorted their own food into the correct crates. Their enthusiasm led to even more food being collected for a second drop-off the following week.

A huge thank you to the pupils, staff and parents of St Luke’s Junior School!
