4 Foster boys this evening - 2 head ginger boys Fiasco & Garfield - the other two? We can’t even get a pic of them alone!! ❤️‍🩹 Think we’re gonna start calling them Laurel and Hardy - or Little & Large 🤭🤭

Gorgeous problem child (not a problem to me ❤️‍🩹🥰🥹) Garfield went out for his first walk since demonstrating to me just how tall he can make himself 🙈🤣🤣
Hard hat on, and a lunge line in hand - we added an extra comfort blanket of best mate Fiasco 🧡❤️‍🩹
We know from Malta that having other horses with him isn’t always the help we hope it will be.
Today’s plan? Just go for a walk, hopefully with no drama and without his heart rate getting up.
This went perfectly until he saw a tractor in the distance when he was looking into all that overwhelming space. He decided it was home time straight away.
Despite getting strong and snatching at the bit he didn’t escalate any further ( never posted pocket footage before but only way to let you in on the bits that happened in between 🤣) Fiasco’s amazing influence and love of grass was perfect for him, in amoungst swatting flies and his circles - we got a calm boy back and walked all the way home on a loose rein
Tiny wins are the very best - he got anxious and allowed us to help him 💪🏽💪🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Also interestingly - when the pressure is off - he chose to lead - do we have a lead horse in the making 🤭🤔❤️‍🩹🧡🧡
Well done big orange you did great 🥰🧡🧡

Bit blustery in FosterTown today 💨- I thought they were coming for tea - but seems they decided to be terrified of the dog they’ve seen twice a day since they arrived here 🤣🤣🤣 - dragons hiding at every turn 🤣🤣🤣🤭🤭

Garfield Update

After the excitement of our inhand walk, Garfield was a little tense about the farrier the following day and then again about the Back man the day after - these 3 events in quick succession returned him to being anxious in situations he had learnt to relax in ……… So we went back to the beginning and started again.
Here’s a bit of footage of our big orange problem child having a groom and taking part in the Core Strength Challenge.
As you can see, we have re-established a calm environment with far less anxiety or impatience when tied up.
He still easily starts to return to that bad state of mind if left to his own devices for more than a minute - but we have a great improvement already ❤️‍🩹
This week we’ll attempt a walk out again 🥰🥰
This boy is the sweetest goon when he’s calm and relaxed - and I can’t wait until the day he realises he can choose to stay the cuddly goon and no longer needs to go to that ‘other place’

Well done my big Orange boy 🧡🧡

This entire incentive has been created to help every single Malta Baby we have in the UK - this isn’t a ‘let’s get involved for a month ‘ thing - this is about our babies - every one of them - a way you can help them transition to their new life.
RMJ was created because of the impeccable temperament of the horses we rehome or rescue - but our adopters are the ones that can make the real difference ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹💪🏽💪🏽 the champions and the ones needing to understand the physical changes our babies go through to become ridden horses and help them on their way 💚💚

WEEK 2 RMJ's CORE STRENGTH CHALLENGE...

This week our theme is Stability and Control. We are looking for our horses to gain stability through finding balance. For us this week's challenge is about being clear, being specific and rewarding the slightest try. We need to send out a huge thankyou to Jayne Faulkner - vet physio for allowing us to post some of her instructional videos on belly lifts, neck stretches and a back reflex sequence! You can find all of this plus some demo videos of the tasks on our You Tube channel. Videos will be available from Monday 8th June. https://www.youtube.com/

The Tasks:

1. Increase your horse to back up to several steps, asking for one step at a time.
2. Teach your horse to back up from a cue whilst you walk beside them. Once they understand this, look for halt to walk to halt to back up transitions. Try to keep the rope soft and have the horse make the changes rather than pull on the rope.
3. Introduce moving sideways. One step is good enough at the moment.
4. Walk poles - Set the poles the correct distance for your horse, raise the poles off the ground. Walk through the poles and ask for a controlled 'teardrop' turn to return back over the poles. Look to turn your horse both towards you and away from you.
5. Carrot stretches - Can you increase the stretch and the hold time.

FosterTown footage
Fiasco & Isaac
We managed to get these 2 boys out today, both were foot perfect although probably not well matched as a pair to hack out together 🤣🤣 - Little boy Isaac is far more woah than go, still has a bit of weight to gain since returning to us, but his bloods came back clear and we’re happy he’ll continue to gain weight well - he’s the sweetest boy to handle 🥰🥰 and the most chilled of all the FosterTown residents.
Fiasco has a more active mind and is a more active ride - not by any means fast or unmanageable, he’ll love to be in an active happy hacking home where he can go and see stuff always happy to step along and keen to see what’s around the next corner. Both are still relatively new to the UK ridden game and will need their core strength exercises to help them along their way
Isaac would be an amazing family horse, he loves cuddles and the odd bimble out, Fiasco is looking for something a little bit more, he def wants 24hr turn out (for as much of the year as possible) and a secure herd setting (he’s moved around a bit and does crave security), fiasco is also looking for a no jumping home
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Well done both boys you did great 🤎🧡🤎🧡
Also had Garfield out for some of his core strength exercises today - post his footage soon
