THEY'RE BACK! KRIV WORKING IN TINKERS CLOUGH: FRIDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER: PLEASE TAKE CARE.

On Friday 5th September, the Kerridge Ridge and Ingersley Vale Volunteers (KRIV) will be back carrying out essential work in Tinkers Clough. The work will take place from around 10AM to 3 PM, weather permitting.

A huge thank you in advance for their efforts which are essential to keeping the Clough open for community use.

Thank you !

The Clough will remain open to the public whilst the work is being done. We would ask that you take care if travelling through and follow any guidance offered by the KRIV volunteers.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 24TH FEBRUARY:

Part of the wall we were concerned about in Tinkers Clough has collapsed overnight. Thankfully, it has fallen within the area that we had cordoned off.

The Canal and River Trust, who are responsible for the wall, have (once again) been informed and hopefully they will now do something about it.

You can still walk through the Clough following the slight diversion but please stay clear of and do not touch the wall.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE TAKE CARE IN TINKERS CLOUGH

If you travel through Tinkers Clough, you'll see that we've directed the route away from the towpath wall that overhangs the path by the canal entrance. Please do not enter the roped off area adjacent to the wall and take care as you leave the normal path.

We have had to do this because we have become increasingly concerned about the integrity of the towpath wall. The wall is the responsibility of the Canal and Rivers Trust and our concerns have been repeatedly reported to them. CRT say that they are "monitoring" the wall but work on it is "not seen as a priority". We are contesting this and you can help us by reporting any concerns you have through CRT's reporting mechanism.

https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/contact-us/ways-to-contact-us -us-form and select "Report an issue or problem with one of our canals, rivers, towpaths or facilities".

In the meantime, please continue to enjoy using Tinkers Clough but take care as you pass through.

WORK IN TINKERS CLOUGH STARTING ON THURSDAY 9th JANUARY: PLEASE TAKE CARE

Bartlett tree surgeons will be doing some important work in Tinkers Clough on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th January and may be returning the following week. We hope to keep the Clough open to the public whilst this work is done but please follow the signage and any directions the tree surgeons give. The work could take up to a week to complete, dependent on weather conditions.

Without this work being carried out, we would need to consider closing the Clough to public access.

The Clough is privately owned and leased to the Trust who seek to maintain it and make it available for public access. As part of our obligations to maintain public access, we have the trees inspected regularly. Unfortunately some of the trees, particularly some ash and elm, are diseased and need urgent attention in order to give them the best chance of surviving and continue to ensure the public can safely access this important community space.

The Trust relies on grants and donations in order to keep the Clough open to the thousands of walkers, runners, dog walkers, families, meditation groups, school parties and bird watchers who use it each year.

We are incredibly grateful, therefore, to the Adelphi Group, Bollington Town Council, Cutler Cleaning Supplies Ltd and R A Smart who have very generously contributed to support this work - without their help we would have needed to consider closing the Clough.

Thank you !
