My dear friends, Les and Pilar Norman, of DCI Prayer room, writes today:
"Some 46 years ago, a man from Sri Lanka with the tongue-twisting name of Colton Wickramaratne looked me in the eye and, with a prophetic flourish, said: “Go there.”
Today, I am reminded to say those same two anointed words to you.
The story is that after Elijah had upset wicked King Ahab, the Lord told him to get away and hide by the Brook Cherith. The Lord said He had commanded ravens to feed Elijah “there.”
Later on, the brook dried up. Elijah became thirsty—all because a certain prophet had stopped the rain and was now suffering because of his own prayers. The Lord then instructed Elijah to go to Zarephath, because He had arranged for a widow to provide for him “there.” And so it was; in fact, until the end of that harsh famine and drought, the supply of flour and oil never failed for the lady, her son, or Elijah.
You see, for you and for all of us, there is a supernaturally appointed place of obedience and provision called “There.” It is for us to discern where it is, to obey the whispers of the Holy Spirit, and go “there”—as unlikely as that place may seem.
Camping “there” alone by a brook, instead of holding big prophetic meetings.
Going “there” to a vulnerable widow, instead of a rich man with a storehouse.
But “there” is where God’s provision was waiting for Elijah, and it is where it is waiting for you. “There”—as hidden, disguised, or far-fetched as it may seem—is where you will find that whatever you need spiritually, emotionally, or materially has already been provided. Your “there” might be across the street or across the world; it might be by a quiet brook or in an unthinkable person.
Whatever it is—just go there, and go now.
How many times in these 46 years has the Lord taken us “there,” even when we didn't know where we were going? Now, for the next generation, He will be just as faithful. For God’s work, done in God’s ways, will never lack God’s supplies.
Come, Holy Spirit, and confirm this word with signs and wonders following.
See you there!"
Les & Pilar.
I remember that day too!

What happens when grace is abused? It would appear that grace can be withdrawn, according to Jesus, in Matthew 19:23-35. In verse 34 we learn that "In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured until he should pay back all he owed." Now the problem with grace is that there is always someone, or several, who abuse it. It 'comes with the turf', as we say in England. So what would you do in those circumstances? There are those who say grace should be continually extended, but Jesus shows that grace, once given, can still be withdrawn. Now that's something for us all to consider today, isn't it?

"As they stretched him out to flog him, Paul said to the centurion standing there, 'Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn't even been found guilty?'" (Acts 22:25) I may be a little weird here, but, are you willing to be stretched before you share your citizenship? I'm sure Paul could have done this earlier, whilst the crowd were still baying for his death. Or once the Romans had him in their charge. Yet he waited to be stretched out before he declared who he was. So often we 'jump the gun' in declaring our allegiance to Christ, when sometimes it is better to wait until we see how things progress, and once we are stretched out, then is a good time to make our declaration. Jesus never promised to deliver us from every attack upon our person, He said we would have power to be His martyrs. Perhaps today is such a day. Feel the stretch!

"Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over the creatures that move along the ground.'" (Genesis 1:20) So, child of God, are you a creator or a consumer. Like God, creators leave things in a better place than they were before they came into the world; consumers tend to leave things emptier than before they turned up. As we've said before, this world loves consumers. If, then, we are not, at some point, in regular conflict with the world, the only reason is that we have compromised with the world's thinking, and become net consumers. Take some time to consider that today. Don't just empty the shelves in the shop, fill them!

What is it that we encourage those in the church to be? Not simply to do stuff, but to be? Paul encouraged his spiritual son, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15) The simple truth is that we will all be presented, individually, before God, either in Christ or outside His covering. Yes, we are workmen and women, but will our work be of eternal worth. Not if we misuse God's word. So today, how is my hermeneutic at interpreting scripture? Hmm. Thinking on that myself, you know.

"Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man." (Psalm 112:4) What a promise. Even better when we consider that righteousness is not something we work for, but something that, in Christ Jesus, we have been made, according to Romans 3:21-22. So today, child of God, whether your day is bright or dark, focus on the righteousness He has given you in Christ, for that's where the light will rise in your darkest times. Worth some thought, that, today, isn't it?

Why do we, in the church, take all the positive passages from the Old Testament and apply them to us, yet ignore the warnings and judgements because we live under grace? God doesn't change. We want His blessing, but don't want to bear responsibility for carrying His presence. Too often we use Him like a doctor to sort out our problems when things go wrong. "You have forgotten God your Saviour; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress. Therefore, though you set out the finest plants ... yet the harvest will be as nothing ..." (Isaiah 17:10-11) Let's not be those who live comfortably enough to forget about God until things go awry. We need to live with Him in mind, and close to hand, all day and every day, don't you know?

"Many of the Samaritans from the town believed in Him because of the woman's testimony, 'He told me everything I ever did.'" (John 4:39) What? No demand for repentance? Maybe this woman left some of that to Jesus Himself. She simply told them how He had affected her, and what HE said to her. That's a testimony, rather than a preach. We are all called to testify, but not all called to preach. There are some things in the lives of the unchurched that are better left for Jesus to sort out, rather than trying to sort them out ourselves. Think on that as you share your testimony today.

How peaceful is your home? I don't mean that we never have conflicts, rather that we don't invite strife to live in our homes and families. "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting with strife." (Proverbs 17:1) Some homes may be full of feasting when the pastor calls, but filled with strife once he (or she) leaves. Constant strife is a sign of immovable and unwavering convictions or opinions. Which is why God has set in His word certain principles for the righteous functioning of families. So, today, I ask, do we know what those principles are? Do we care? Or do we live with the trappings of the feast rather than the peace of a quiet crust?

It was a very odd thing Pharaoh said to Moses, "'Tomorrow,' Pharaoh said. Moses replied, 'It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no-one like The Lord our God.'" (Exodus 8:10) Why, oh why, when your country is being plagued by frogs, would you wait another 24 hours before getting rid of them? Maybe he felt he could use this to his own political advantage, perhaps letting people know that he is getting rid of the frogs. Either way, a wasted day. So, my friend, what is the tomorrow you are waiting for before getting rid of your frogs in the house? Another day of sin? Another day of fun? Another day of what this world calls freedom? Now is the day of salvation, according to the Bible, not tomorrow.

"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity." (Psalm 133:1) Those of us who start with some relationship in Christ are already given unity, but according to Ephesians 4:3 we have to work at keeping it. Unity is not an attitude, it is a decision. It is not a feeling or even an agreement or contract, it is a choice. We commit to belonging to whatever we devote ourselves to; firstly to Christ, and through Him to each other. So don't let the cunning masters of division cause a rift in the family today - we need the blessing of God that only comes through family unity. So care for what we've been given today.

Comings and goings matter. "What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?" (Isaiah 10:3) Disaster come unexpectedly; and so will that day of reckoning. So the one we come to for help, as well as to whom we give our money, will then be put to the test. Otherwise, we are living in that tunnel created by this world ... just living. If we have run to the right One, and managed what He has given to us well, then all will be well. After all, we can take none of this with us. Not our faith, for we will then know and be known. Certainly not our wealth, for that will be going to others. So, today, where does my help come from? Where is my wealth going? Worth thinking about that right now, don't you know?
