National Day of Prayer for Schools
Wednesday 9th September is the National Day of Prayer for Schools — a wonderful opportunity to pause and pray for the schools in our communities and the children, young people and adults within them. Perhaps you could pray for your local school, the school your children or grandchildren attend, or a school where you work or volunteer. And if you don’t have a particular school in mind, why not simply choose a school in your local area and pray for the staff and pupils there? Whether you spend a few minutes praying on your own or gather with others to pray, we would love to encourage you to join us in covering our schools in prayer. We believe that prayer makes a difference, and that God is at work in our schools, often in ways we cannot see. Here are some prayer points to help you:
Pray for the children and young people — that they would feel safe, valued and cared for, and that they would know that they are seen, known and loved by God.
Pray for headteachers, teachers and all school staff — for wisdom, patience, strength and encouragement as they care for and support the children in their schools.
Pray for children who are struggling — whether with friendships, anxiety, family circumstances, learning or simply the pressures of growing up. Pray that they would find the support and kindness they need.
Pray for Christian presence in schools — for Christian teachers, volunteers, churches and organisations who have opportunities to share God’s love through their words, actions and relationships.
Pray for families — that parents and carers would be supported, encouraged and equipped, and that strong, healthy relationships would grow between homes and schools.
Pray for opportunities to share the good news of Jesus — that hearts would be open and that conversations, lessons, assemblies and everyday interactions would point people towards Him.
