Tarka ESU

Tarka ESU For any 14-18 year old across the Fylde, Tarka ESU offers fun, challenge and adventure with a wide variety of activities and opportunities.

Hello and welcome to the Tarka Explorer Scout Unit! Tarka ESU is based at Fylde District Activity Centre and normally meets once a week, along with additional activities as and when we are able. We are one of two Explorer Scout Units in the Fylde District of West Lancashire Scout County. We normally take Scouts when they move on from 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th & 17th Lytham St Annes Scout Groups, but are

also open to any other members of Fylde Scouts and equally those with no prior Scouting experience. Explorer Scouts generally take part in more adventurous activities, and get much more involved in the running of their unit, contributing programme ideas, and organising camps and events. As such, Explorers develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. Explorers has something for every young person. It is a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.

On our first week back we had the honour of Adrien visiting us to do some Backwoods cooking. This included building fire tunnels, and making both Bread on a Stick and Welsh Cakes.
Archie, Ethan, Finlay and Ellis were also invested into Tarka at the end of the evening after joining us at the end of last term!

Snow and Ice 2025

We’re heading back to the Cairngorms in February 2025 for Snow and Ice. This is a Winter Mountaineering Experience for Explorers, Network and Leaders.

From 14-19 Feb 2025 you’ll have the opportunity to take part in Winter Mountaineering whether that be expeditions, Winter Climbing, Winter Hill Ascents, Snowholes, Skiing and much more.

Cost is £330 which includes all your accommodation, transport to and from Scotland and on the event, fully catered, equipment and instruction from qualified winter instructors. No winter experience is needed and we can lend winter kit for no extra fee.

You do need to be 15 years old upwards and have had some experience of walking – whilst you don’t need winter experience, this isn’t a trip for complete novices who haven’t been walking in the mountains before. You need to have the stamina to walk into the hills each day. Some experience of walking in the Lakes/North Wales is useful. If unsure – get in touch – [email protected]

Interested? There are only 40 places available! Don’t miss out!

APPLICATIONS OPEN ON FRIDAY 27th SEPTEMBER AT 7AM
