We were very saddened to hear about another wonderful Veteran Don Turrell passing. A Cameronian who visited us on Hill 112.
We met by chance at Courselle Sur Mer in a black taxi cab driven by taxi driver Dean Euseden and supported by his wonderful carer Callum on the 4th June 2025
80th anniversary of D Day. We got chatting and he agreed with Callum and Dean to come to our small service on the 5th June where he also fought.
The weather was very cold and we insisted he stayed in the warm taxi and watch through the window. He was a delightful kind man and very interesting. A meeting we won’t forget. He was on a whistle stop tour which is or was the case with these wonderful veterans. Everybody wants to meet them rightly so and such a thrill for all involved. From the knowledge with my own father he was on an adrenaline high for weeks after he returned from Normandy. I think a feeling they all deserve.
RIP Don your duty is done
God Bless xx

Such sad news with the passing of Ken Hay today, a loyal
Supporter of the Hill112 Memorial Foundation as well as an Ambassador for the British Normandy Memorial. He worked so
Hard to help where he could to keep the Normandy history alive for the future generation. A kind friend. Rest in peace Ken with love from Annette and The Hill 112 Memorial Foundation.

The Charity The Hill 112 Memorial Foundation has received an email from a lady called Lily Wright.

She is researching her great uncle Private Ronald Wright (Service Number 14414334) tragically killed in action at Hill 112 on 11th July 1944 at just 19 years old. He is buried in St Manvieu War Cemetery in Cheux, Normandy.
She says, he was offically badged with the Middlesex Regiment 8th Battalion but his original burial and service records indicate he was permanently detached to the 43rd Wessex Infantry Division. She assumes he was in the Headquarters Company due to him being a Driver Mechanic in a Defence Platoon. He was from Heathway, Dagenham Essex.

She is looking for a photograph of him during the WW2 and says she has already exhausted the traditional military museums and local newspaper archives without success. Because he serviced directly within the Divisional HQ Defence Platoon, he would have lived and worked alongside the HQ staff, dispatch riders and vehicle maintenance teams of the Wessex Wyverns in the months leading up to and during the Normandy Campaign.

She is reaching out to the HILL 112 community to see if anyone has or know of, any informal group photos, platoon snapshots, or vehicle motor pool albums belonging to the 43rd Wessex Division HQ.

Defence Platoon from early 1943 to June 1944.

She quotes "Even if the faces in the photos are unlabelled, our family would be incredibly grateful to look at them, as we would recognise his features instantly. If any families of the 43rd HQ veterans hold albums from this period please do let us know or if you know any other ways to be able to find the Company or platoon photographs that be greatly appreciated".

She thanks us for keeping the memory of Hill 112 alive! Thank you Lily.

Thank you for any help you can give by sending a message here or by messenger.
