Stanford Hall CSA

Stanford Hall CSA With the aim of providing healthy, sustainable food + offering educational activities, Stanford Hall has launched a Community Supported Agricultural Scheme.

Today we face many challenges in agriculture, which ultimately affect us all. The community farm uses many cutting edge solutions such as no dig agriculture and permaculture. Using the “no dig” method promotes abundant soil life and create nutrient dense crops with fantastic flavour. Permaculture is guided by principles of Earth care, people care and fair share. It offers operational systems that

work with natural cycles, leading to maximum output for minimum input. By using and teaching these systems we reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment, while offering food produced without harmful chemicals, ensuring greater food security for all. Our produce is made available to community growers, school canteens and local residents through a membership system.

🌼 Discover the Beauty and Benefits of Chrysanthemums! 🌼

🌿 Did you know that chrysanthemums, also known as "mums," are not just beautiful flowers but also packed with incredible uses and benefits? Here's why you'll fall in love with these vibrant blooms:

1️⃣ A Medicinal Marvel: Chrysanthemums have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. They contain compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making them a natural remedy for various ailments.

3️⃣ Garden Ecosystem Heroes: These flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, promoting biodiversity in your garden.

🌸 Growing Seasons: Chrysanthemums are typically planted in the spring after the last frost, and they bloom gloriously in the fall, adding a burst of colour to your autumn landscape.

It was a thrill to feed the good vibes of .houseofhoney 2023 with our good foods; farmed, foraged and fermented by those taking part in Stanford Hall CSA.

The VEG SHACK menu was packed with flavours freshly picked from the field: beetroot, thyme, rosemary, lemon balm, crysanthamum, fennel, summer cabbage, black kale.

The colourful wraps of pakoras with beetroot ketchup, vegan aoli and herb vinaigrette got some 5 star reviews!

The festival was filled with yellow wonder and incredible sensory decor to celebrate 30 years of this festival. Congrats Ben and the crew for throwing a great party!

We are hatching a plan for 2024 to bring together a wild mix of different regenerative methods of agriculture to grow a field of highly nutritious beans.

Following the successful combination of Wildfarmed snazzy gps strip till, a handmower and a gaggle of 60, 7 year olds to harvest and a community gathering to thresh the beans we are looking at investing in a piece of light weight equipment which can be worked by horse, cow or bike.

The aim is to have equipment which is easily shared with other small scale farmers, in the Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire area.

checkout the article on Good Food Leicestershire about the lab results for the nutrition of the beans.

Also please support the adventures and research of Original Horse Power who have been helping develop this project. https://www.gofundme.com/f/original-horse-power

We are looking for the the right tool, if you know of one, or the funds, tool makers, innovators, designers who would be interested in making this project happen do get in touch.

Leicestershire Food Summit is back for 2023.

Following on from 2022’s successful shindig at Stanford Hall CSA, near Lutterworth, we’re holding our event on Monday 19 June.

So please put that date in your diary.

As well as bringing you interesting speakers (and lunch with a sustainable edge), we’ll be having a chat and a bit of deep dive into our vast and varied food system, which, like a lot of us, could do with greater support and understanding.

Good Food Leicestershire would love to share with you the positives of our county, from our round-the-clock farmers to our extra mile foodbank and community fridgers, who work to see Leicestershire doesn’t go hungry and that good food doesn’t go to waste.

Gavin Fletcher, co-ordinator of Good Food Leicestershire, said: “We’re currently working out what to bring you at our second summit and hope you’ll join us to see some of our GFL project work from this past year.

“From our connection with BeanMeals, to our carbon and biodiversity study that looks at procuring regeneratively grown school food, we hope to bring you insight into how we’re working together and in the right direction.”

* There’ll be more updates on Leicestershire Food Summit #2 on Good Food Leicestershire in the coming weeks...
