There are estimates that around 150 million children aged 5-14 in developing countries, about 16 per cent of all children in this age group, are involved in child labour (UNICEF) excluding child domestic labour. When children are forced to work due to social and economic reasons they are often denied their rights to education, welfare and childhood. They are also exposed to situations that make th
em vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, violence and exploitation. Young Minds Organisation Trust (YMO Trust) is a charity working with young people from impoverished nations to acquire life skills through enhanced educational support and work skills training which they are unable to acquire due to their social and economic circumstances. Indirectly the hope is to make a positive impact on UNICEF targets on child poverty and labour. YMO Trust aims to operate training centres across multiple global sites to give access to education, vocational training and welfare support. The Trust has successfully piloted a centre in Bangladesh and will be using this as a blueprint for future projects. The Trustees of this charity have used this success as a spring board to develop a broad programme to benefit economically deprived young people to access resources to better themselves.
