Kimpton Parish Council

Kimpton Parish Council Kimpton Parish Council serves the people of Kimpton, Blackmore End and Peter's Green in Hertfordshire, UK.

The village of Kimpton is situated between the Mimram and Lea river valleys in Hertfordshire, about six miles south of Hitchin. It is approximately four miles from Harpenden and Luton. The Parish of Kimpton comprises Kimpton itself, with a population of around 1,400, and also the adjacent settlements of Blackmore End and Peters Green, housing populations of about 800 and 80, respectively. Some of

the houses on Kimpton High Street date back to the 16th century, although many are 19th and early 20th century, and there are sizeable developments of houses from the 1960s and 1970s. There is a village shop and post office, a doctor’s surgery, and a thriving Primary School and Nursery, as well as a significant number of businesses operating on a small industrial estate on the edge of Kimpton, as well as a large number of people working as sole traders in the area. The village has a reputation for its strong community spirit with over 50 clubs and organisations meeting regularly and helping to support the village as a whole. Every year at the beginning of May, many of these groups set up a stall on the Recreation Ground as part of the annual local fundraiser, the May Festival – an event run over three days featuring an art exhibition, craft market, stalls, arena entertainments, six mile sponsored run, walk with clues to solve, village concert, quiz, cream teas with jazz band. Kimpton has a spacious flint-built parish church in the unusual transitional style between the Norman and Early English – the oldest bell in the tower dates from the 1300s. Internally, the Dacre Chapel has a fine Perpendicular screen, and the remains of early wall paintings in the chancel show St Christopher and the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy, depicting charitable acts toward the needy.

Life in the parish of Kimpton is built around community. From local events to green spaces and village life, the parish council helps shape the things people experience every day.

But communities change, and it is important that younger generations are part of the conversation too. Young people bring fresh ideas, new energy, and a better understanding of issues like transport, digital communication, youth activities, and protecting spaces for future families.

Being a parish councillor is not about politics for the sake of politics. It is about listening to residents, supporting local projects, and helping make practical improvements that benefit everyone.
Kimpton has a strong sense of community and keeping that spirit alive means making sure every generation has a voice. A modern parish council should reflect the people who live here today and the people who will shape its future tomorrow.

If you care about the future of Kimpton, now is the time to get involved. Whether it’s attending meetings, sharing ideas, volunteering locally, or standing for the parish council yourself, every voice can make a difference. The village will only stay strong if people are willing to step forward and help shape it.

To find out more about being a parish councillor please feel free talk to Cllr Nigel Wallis, Cllr Sam Cain or Carina Helmn, Parish Clerk 07891 452832 or complete an application form

Although North Hertfordshire District Council issued poll cards to all electors in the Parish of Kimpton, no election will take place on Thursday 7th May.

The poll cards were distributed as a precaution, in case more than eight nominations were received for Kimpton Parish Council, which would have required a vote.

However, only six nominations were submitted. As a result, all candidates have been elected unopposed, and there is no need for a poll.

We would like to hear from any elector who would like to apply to be co-opted to Kimpton Parish Council, please contact Carina Helmn [email protected]

KPC has had to take the difficult decision to remove this fence with contractors scheduled to complete the removal at the weekend. Vandals have caused damage which is beyond economic repair and we must ensure the Recreation Ground is safe for our numerous visitors at May Festival. We apologise to those who prefer the playground to be fenced and will look into options that can be found within our tight budget.

A polite request from KRCFC and Kimpton Parish Council to not hang on the crossbar of the goals, please.

Prior to the season starting at the beginning of September, KRCFC committee members and players restored the full size goals back to their correct form as if the goals are too out of shape, the referee can call off the game.

Yesterday morning we arrived to the below photo prior to kickoff. Thankfully we were able to bend it back and play our game yesterday but it would obviously be a lot easier if we didn't have to do that.

KPC has been looking after the interests of residents and visitors since 1894!

All the above, plus more, needs the commitment of 8 residents to put themselves forward to serve as Parish Councillors. The work is continually changing and in the coming months there will be a huge project associated with 10 acres of land being gifted to the Parish Council, for public parkland, as part of the Kimpton Grange development. This will require careful consideration to ensure the best recreational space is created for the community and that the financial liability is fully understood.

Can you be part of our team? There are two vacancies to be filled at our parish council meeting being held on Wednesday 26th February. Our application form is on https://kimptonpc.org.uk/become-a-kimpton-parish-councillor/attached with a deadline of Wednesday 19th February and please feel free to contact the Parish Clerk, Carina Helmn 07891 452832 or any of the councillors with your questions.
