Ross Park Scout Group

During the summer term, our Scouts spent several nights working on the creation of a bug hotel for Ross Park! 🐞🐛

Over the duration of five nights the Scouts developed this project start to finish. First, an evening bug hunting around the grounds to survey their potential ‘clientele’. The following week a hike to Haverings to see, and take inspiration from, their bug hotel (whilst collecting supplies for the hotel), before a second resource gathering hike and two evenings constructing. We even had some help from 4th Stopsley Brownies one night during construction! 👷🛠️

As part of their badge, the Scouts are required to share with you some of what they have done, and why they have done it… you can see some of their posters below! ⬇️📝

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who made donations of materials for the Scouts to be able to undertake this project, they couldn’t have done it without you! 🤝

Stephen and Jen are at Gilwell Reunion this weekend representing Ross Park! Gilwell Park is the home of UK Scouting and Reunion is the annual adults only weekend. 🏕️

We’ve shared our necker with Robert Baden-Powell, and even found Norma and David Farish’s brick in the Gilwell Promise path. Norma and David were bought a brick in the path after their many years of outstanding services to scouting! ⚜️

Wishing all the best to our young people and volunteers who will be picking up exam results, starting University, staring work placements (including one abroad!) and moving to the next stages of their education, over the next few weeks! We are proud of you and all your efforts, and are absolutely certain you’ll smash whatever you’re doing next! 💪🎉

To those of you we will see again in the September, enjoy the time celebrating! To those of you moving away to new things, don’t be strangers… we hope to see you soon! 👋

It’s been a hot but busy week down at Ross Park! Our Cubs had to rain-check their hike (pun fully intended) due to the hot weather, instead favouring an evening of water games! 💦

Our Scouts continued as planned and started construction of our bug hotel! 🐞🐛🏨

This weekend, our Beavers went on a district day trip to Knebworth to celebrate Beavers 40th Birthday! A great day out, full of fun and laughter! Thank you to Denise, from the district team for organising and all our volunteers who volunteered their time for our young people to be able to attend 🤝🦫

Last night, our Cubs put to practise their knot tying skills they’d learnt the week before! Using paper plates, a digestive, icing sugar and strawberry laces, they first made the world badge (using a reef knot), before making a raft out of breadsticks! There they made use of a clove hitch, and square lashings! A busy (and tasty) evening… 🍪🪢⚜️
