The charity organisation has been around since the year 2001 which works for the mitigation of people’s suffer
ing in some of the world’s poorest communities, and concentrates its charity work particularly in some countries in Asia and East Africa. Mercy Universal rushes emergency relief to victims who have been affected by wars and natural disasters, furthermore they also provide relief and medical assistance to the poor, needy, and sick in Pakistan, Kashmir and Bangladesh. It helps in eradicating the root causes of poverty through such measures as self reliance through vocational training and schemes of income generation. Mercy Universal also provides assistance for shelter and house-repair, sponsorship scheme for orphans and poor children. Mercy Universal primarily focuses on working in Kashmir and inside Jammu, by working closely with the homeless, widows, and those who have been r***d and molested. Further details of the projects and scheme which MU works towards are as follows;
Helping Orphans
Mercy Universal has a programme in place where they offer support to families who have no one around to earn, therefore receive no income in the family. The family would include children and a widowed mother who have neither means nor anybody to look after them. Shelter for the homeless
Mercy universal provide temporary shelters till permanent arrangements have been made for those who have been made homeless and homes have been destroyed by Indian Forces. Rehabilitation
Under this project, Mercy Universal gives grants for establishing a Dairy Unit or a mini shop unit for those families who are in need of it the most. MU also provides general provisions like cows and buffaloes to help charities. The purpose of this programme is to bring out the spirit of self reliance among the beneficiaries and to create a sense of dignity and honour in them. Grant in Aid for marriages
This scheme arranges to provide the minimum necessary expenditure for the marriages of girls of war victims. The grant would meet the expense of buying a bridal outfit, some ornaments and a simple marriage dinner. Education promotion
Mercy Universal aim to provide suitable educational facilities in occupied Kashmir for countless people who don’t have facilities to study in. As many schools and colleges have been shut down due to a lack of proper state funding and no arrangements even for primary education. Emergency relief
Mercy Universal would provide emergency relief such as water, food, and much more to those who have been effected by natural calamities, floods, earthquakes etc...
Vocational training for Jobless
Kashmir consists of great talent especially males who have skills within crafts. Many of these men have been killed therefore Mercy Universal set up various vocational programmes, and vocational training for girls and women to benefit from. This would help to revive the hand craft industry and also create job opportunities. Medical assistance
So far MU has got 2 ambulances which provide medical assistance to those who cannot afford the medical services within Kashmir. Education and Scholarships
Mercy Universal has built 10 community centres so far in order to provide financial help for the Kashmiri children. Primary and secondary education is provided on a priority basis. More than 500 students from affected families have benefited from Mercy Universals primary education. Iftari’s
Mercy Universal has provided food packs during the month of Ramadan to provide iftari’s for those families who cannot afford to purchase food items. Water Pumps
MU provides and builds water pumps in poor rural areas in the Far East. So far they have provided clean water pumps – over 30, in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
Qurbani
During the auspicious festival MU arrange for Qurbani in far flung areas, providing food to people in poverty.
