We are deeply saddened by the tragic train collision that took place in Bedford this evening. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who sadly lost their life, and we wish a full and speedy recovery to all those who have been injured.

Emergency services remain at the scene and a major incident has been declared while authorities work to establish exactly what happened.

As a precautionary measure, we have been in contact with Luton and Dunstable Hospital and have shared the emergency telephone number in case support is needed for any Romanian nationals affected by this tragic incident.

If any Romanian citizens have been affected by this incident, or if you are concerned about a Romanian family member or friend who may have been involved, assistance is available through the Romanian Consulate - Consulatul General al României la Londra - emergency line:

🌟 We’re delighted to share some exciting news! 🌟

We are delighted to have received support from Luton Rising through the Luton Rising New Horizons Fund managed by the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation. Thanks to this grant, we are now able to continue our work with Luton residents.🙌
This funding will support our project, “Community and Employability Empowerment Pathway”, a two-year programme designed to help Luton residents progress from entry-level employability support into meaningful careers, and where possible, into community leadership and mentorship roles.

📈 To accessing real career opportunities
🤝 And giving back through leadership

On Friday, May 29, a meeting was held between representatives of the local authorities in Luton and the Consulatul General al României la Londra, under the aegis of Luton 2040 – Romanian Community Strategy Forum Event, organized by Link Community Centre and Romanian Contact Point UK.

The discussions focused on identifying the needs of Romanian citizens in the area, strengthening collaboration between institutions and community organizations, as well as developing projects that support the cohesion, education and well-being of Romanian families.

The event was opened by Maria Lowell, Executive Member for Women, Equality and Community Safety within Luton Council, who emphasized the importance of the event as a significant step in strengthening relations between local institutions, the consular office and the Romanian community.

During the meeting, Mr. Robert Marin, Consul General of Romania in London, presented the consular office’s efforts to support the Romanian community in the United Kingdom, including the concept of “More than a Consulate, a Community Hub”, as well as the institution’s strategic objectives for the period 2025–2028, focused on partnership, accessibility, consular excellence, institutional cooperation and strengthening the relationship with citizens.
In this context, the Consul General also presented the “Regional Support Network” project, an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between institutions, local authorities, organizations and leaders of Romanian communities in the region, in order to facilitate citizens’ access to information, services and support tailored to their needs.

The meeting also benefited from the presence of the Labour Rachel Hopkins MP, for the constituency of Luton South and South Bedfordshire, who spoke about the importance of the Romanian Community Strategy within the future vision of the city of Luton.
The presence of representatives of social services, the Bedfordshire Police Crime Commissioner and related local services at the event highlighted the openness to dialogue between the British authorities and the Romanian community towards concrete projects and long-term initiatives.

We thank the partner organisations and local authorities Luton Social Justice Unit present for their desire to build a stronger and better represented community together.
