Last week at our first meeting back for 2025, 25th Luton Guides celebrated the 75th birthday of the first meeting of the Guides unit (4th Jan 1950).

We had a banner, balloons and cake as well as games from the 1940s-1950s which could have been played at the meetings. Squirrel also brought in pictures from the unit adventures through the years to share with the Guides.

The 25th Luton Guides had fun with signs and sounds during last night's meeting.

We kicked off the evening with a skills builder Signs of the Times. The Guides had to work out what each of the signs around the room were, including Road signs, washing instructions and others.

After this, we completed a UMA called Sounds Around. After discussing ambient music, the Guides playing wink murder while different music played in the background. The Guides reactions changed as the background music did, from fun, intense to calm.

We finished off playing Captain's Orders and Dragonfly says, then a conga round the Parish of Luton, St Anne with St Christopher church hall as the finale!

What a great evening!

Are you planning to head out over the weekend to the STRAW Scarecrow Festival? If so, make sure you pay us a visit at Haverings, Lancing Road.

The Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and their leaders have been very busy making lots of scarecrows for you to see. Here is a taster of some of them.

The building will be open welcoming you on both Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 - 4:00. With cream teas being served from 11:30am—3pm (charged at £5 per person). You may even be able to have a s'more around the campfire.

All profits raised goes towards the upkeep of Haverings, a fantastic resource for all in Girlguiding in Luton, and beyond.

It's Time to Celebrate!

The 25th Luton Guides had their end of term celebration tea party last night with guests from Parish of Luton, St Anne with St Christopher House Group and Captain from 2nd Stopsley Guides.

There was an Olympic Quiz during the evening as well as presentations, while everyone enjoyed tea and cakes.

The Guides were presented with the badges and certificates that had been achieved that term. This included the First Aid stage 4 Skills Builder, Interest Badges for Fitness, Meditation, Mixology and Natural Remedies, as well as the Theme award for Be Well.

We also presented some bronze and silver badges to Guides who have achieved 2 or 4 theme awards.

Dragonfly was presented with her leader badge by Captain, who was her mentor, and her certificate by her unit leader, Squirrel.

A lovely end to the term! The 25th Luton Guides leaders hope everyone has a lovely summer break and we will see you in September!
