Change Grow Live, Luton Recovery Alliance

Change Grow Live, Luton Recovery Alliance We're here for adults in Luton who are struggling with alcohol and/or drug use. We'll listen to your needs and help you set goals so we can tailor your support.

We believe everyone has the ability to change, and we're here to help you do it. People use alcohol for different reasons – to be sociable, to relieve stress, cope with anxiety, and many other reasons. However, your drinking may be affecting you in ways you may not realise. You have the potential to change your drinking. We are here to help you achieve it. We also offer free and confidential advic

e and information around drugs. Whether you want to reduce your drug use or stop altogether, we're here for you. We have a needle exchange programme and can offer advice about safer injecting. We also offer free naloxone and training on how to use it.

Alcohol may feel like it helps you relax because it slows down and suppresses brain activity.

But:
Alcohol is a depressant.

It effects the neurotransmitters in your brain impacting your levels of serotonin and dopamine, plus increasing stress hormones (cortisol).

❗Alcohol will increase your low mood, and anxiety.

If you are looking for ways to de stress:
Consider reducing the amount of alcohol you drink.

Not only will your mood improve, so will:
Your sleep.
Your anxiety levels.
Your finances.
Your relationships.
Your physical and mental health

When you feel like pouring that first drink of the day.
Try replacing it with something that will really help lift your mood.

Call a friend for a catch up

Take a short walk, getting fresh air and a little exercise can really help with low mood.

Listen to music (happy music please!)

Just sit, meditate, concentrate on your breath and relax.

If you are thinking about reducing the amount you drink or stopping completely get in touch and get the support you need.

If you are alcohol dependant please get support before you stop drinking

People drink alcohol for different reasons:

🔴Out of habit
🔴Because they are bored
🔴Because they are lonely
🔴Because they are trying to fit in
🔴Because everyone else is drinking
🔴Because its easier than saying no
🔴Just to be sociable
🔴To help them sleep
🔴To help them cope
🔴Because they need to

Understanding why you pour a drink
or choose alcohol over non alcoholic can be really helpful.

Ff you are considering cutting back or
curious about your relationship with alcohol

Next time you reach for a drink
Ask yourself why

Keep a diary of:
When you drink,
Why you drink and
How your feel
