Armagh Round Table Round Table Great Britain and Ireland

Round Table Lurgan visited Lough Neagh Discovery Centre and Kinnego Marina this morning. It was an absolute treat for the senses!

As we arrived at the stunning Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, we were greeted by the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding nature. The tranquil waters of Lough Neagh stretched out before us, reflecting the vibrant blue sky above. It was a sight to behold, truly a feast for the eyes.

We made our way to Kinnego Marina, where we indulged in some much-needed coffee to kickstart our morning. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and the warm cup in our hands brought comfort and a sense of relaxation. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the day ahead.

Sitting by the marina, we were treated to a picturesque view of the boats gently swaying in the water. The peaceful atmosphere and the gentle lapping of the waves created a soothing ambiance, allowing us to unwind and enjoy the moment.

As we sipped our coffee, we couldn't help but appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. The lush greenery, the sparkling waters, and the clear blue sky all came together to create a postcard-worthy scene. It was a reminder of the natural wonders that Northern Ireland has to offer.

Our visit to Lough Neagh Discovery Centre and Kinnego Marina was not only a delightful experience but also a chance to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of our hometown. It's moments like these that remind us of the incredible places we have right on our doorstep.

We can't wait to share more of these experiences with future tablers. Come on guys, give it a go. 🌞🚀🌊 Armagh Round Table Round Table Great Britain and Ireland Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council Lurgan Men's Mental Health Walk The Lurgan Grapevine Oxford Island Oxford Island Nature Reserve Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Oxford Island getactiveabc

About our logo: Next up we have the Crest in the middle of our logo. This was originally the Lurgan Coat of Arms. Let me provide you with a more detailed description of its significance. The arms, which were featured on a JaJa postcard from 1905, have a rich history that dates back to 1868. During that time, the Town Commissioners wanted to honour Lord Lurgan by incorporating his arms and quarterings, along with his crest, into the design. It was a gesture of recognition and respect for Lord Lurgan's contributions to the town.
πŸ°πŸ›‘οΈ
To make the Coat of Arms unique to Lurgan, the Town Commissioners also added their own design, which unfortunately, the meaning behind it remains unknown. This addition was their way of creating a distinct symbol that represented the town and its identity.

Before the adoption of the official Coat of Arms on December 7, 1951, Lurgan had been using a different set of unofficial arms - shown below which now form the centre of our logo.

❓❓What is this Round Table craic❓❓

βœ…βœ…Yes – we are just an average group of lads. Just looking to get out of the house once or twice a month, do different things and escape from the pressures of everyday life!

❌❌No – there is no special criteria. We hate funny handshakes too! Events are always affordable and you don’t have to make everyone 🀝

βœ…βœ…Yes – new members always welcomed. All men aged 18-44 can join. Events are midweek too so they don’t clash with family time or other friendships.

βœ…βœ…Yes – we also give back to the community now and then and have a great laugh doing it.

Why not give it a go?…

Get in touch via messenger to find out more about coming along!

Understanding our logo: Next up we have Master McGrath. (dare we say it "the wee dog") Master McGrath features twice on our logo. The most prominent position is the bottom right! Born in 1867 at Colligan Lodge, the home of James Galway, a renowned Greyhound trainer and owner in Dungarvan, County Waterford. Lord Lurgan sent one of his dogs for breeding there, and little did they know that this small and weak pup would go on to become the most celebrated and successful racing dog of his time!

Originally called "Dicksy" as a pet name, Master McGrath got his name from a young boy who convinced Mr. Galway to save the pup from being drowned due to his unattractive appearance. And boy, did McGrath prove everyone wrong! He made a name for himself by winning the Waterloo Cup near Liverpool in 1868 and 1869, despite a close call when he fell through ice while chasing a hare in 1870.

Lord Lurgan, after witnessing the near-tragedy, decided that McGrath would never course again. However, in 1871, McGrath defied the odds and returned to Liverpool to win the Waterloo Cup for an unprecedented third time. He even had the honor of being paraded before Queen Victoria at her request! His owner used McGrath's winnings to build a terrace of houses in Walthamstow, London, which is now known as "Master McGrath Terrace."

Sadly, Master McGrath's racing career came to an end in 1871 when he passed away due to heart disease. But his legacy lives on, and his remarkable achievements will always be remembered.

Master McGrath is proof that no matter what the perception, everyone is stronger than they know!

πŸ“’Calling all guys! Let's bring back the camaraderie, lifelong friendships, and community spirit that the Lurgan Round Table represents. πŸ“’ TAG-A-GUY

Lurgan needs you! 🀝🌟

Round Table has been associated with Lurgan for many years. We stumbled upon these intriguing images thanks to Old Lurgan Photos from the good old days of the Lurgan Round Table in the 80's and 90's. It would be amazing if any of these chaps have sons, grandsons, nephews, or even next-door neighbors who happen to be fantastic fellas between the ages of 18 and 45. πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ
