Joel's Wish was established in 2010 because of Joel Lawrence's last wish. Joel was diagnosed with stomach cancer at the age of 19 and sadly passed away on March 25, 2010. When Joel became terminally ill he was cared for by the Severn Hospice. The Severn hospice are a local and non-profit organization who do all that is in their power to alleviate pain, both physical and emotional, for patients wit
h life threatening illnesses. The Severn Hospice gave Joel, his family and his friends so much support through pain and unthinkable sadness. Before Joel passed away he made a wish that funds were to be raised in order to help support the hospice long term so their fantastic facilities are available to everybody of all ages. Joel's Wish is also focused on providing support and improve the services available to young people with a terminal diagnosis. It is sad that once an adult has exceeded the age of 18 there is no longer any financial support for families suffering. That's where Joel's Wish really stands out from any other non-profit organization. Joel's Wish is universal and applies to everybody with a terminal illness over the age of 18. This support for families and patients can be found no-where else within the UK. We are supporting something that is inevitable for some people. Cancer is not just for the older generation. We are supporting something that is happening in real time. We are not a work in progress organization who look to spend years searching for cures. We give patients and families whatever is necessary to bring happiness as and when they most need it. This is what we are doing to make a difference! We will be cycling between 100-150 miles a day for 52 days, through some of the world's toughest cycling terrain. Our journey will see us cycle through the heat in California and the freezing temperatures in the Nevada dessert. We will then hit the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming and Idaho which will take us through Chicago to New York where we will travel across to the Liberty Islands. This is going to be by far one of the toughest events the team of 6 will take part in. We believe by representing Joel's love with pride and sharing his wish, it will in turn give others hope, comfort and necessary support during severe illnesses. Meet the team:
