We had the pleasure of working with the brilliant Barmpot Theatre and The Canoe River Cleaner to deliver outside workshops to schools in and around a couple of months ago.

As part of the project, ran by Barmpot Theatre, they also worked with a poet, puppeteer and a film crew who produced this rather fantastic video all about and blow wells around and Grimsby, fantastic work, we love it, enjoy!!

Species Recovery Officer - Details below

With thanks to funding from Natural England Species Recovery Programme grant scheme we are able continue the fantastic work of the Crystal Moss Animal project with University of Nottingham and The Deep Hull.

As part of this we are looking to employ a Species Recovery Officer for the duration of this next phase of the project with the opportunity to complete a Masters by Research with Dr Hanna Hartikainen, a leading expert on the species.

Today we say farewell to Sarah, our Project Officer who has led the Crystal Moss Animal Species Recovery Programme, funded by Natural England.

Over the past few years, Sarah has worked with partners including the University of Nottingham, The Deep, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, the Environment Agency and dedicated volunteers to raise awareness, drive recovery efforts and develop innovative monitoring techniques. Some of the projects highlights include:

🌿 New species-specific eDNA assay developed and tested nationally
📍 Major population discovered at Belton Park, Lincolnshire
🔬 Debris and statoblast sampling identified 15 statoblasts in the River Derwent, River Delph and Far Ings, thanks to our volunteers!
🪢 Translocation trials identified rope as the preferred substrate for colonisation and settlement
🧬 Genetic barcoding with the University of Nottingham improved our understanding of population diversity and identified potential future translocation sites
🐠 Ex situ breeding programme established at The Deep, helping to build populations for future translocations
🙋 Ongoing volunteer-led monitoring programme in place, including monitoring Lincolnshire's blow wells
🏆 Finalist in the BIAZA British Wildlife

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project. We wish Sarah all the best in her next adventure protecting and recovering more species, we will miss her greatly!

We've been out surveying for over the last couple of weeks with some of our marvellous on Waithe beck and the River Freshney

We're glad to say there's definite positive signs on both (including actually seeing some water voles in !)

All funded via the Farming in Protected Landscapes fund run by partners Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, thank you!

Looking at the Great Eau this week with the local fly-fishing syndicate who are doing a fantastic job of caring for it.

Water crowfoot thriving that we transplanted last year with oir fantastic but a bit of work in the planning stage to maintain vegetation and exiating flow deflectors.

The Waithe Beck is looking lovely and clear today. It’s great to see the gravels on the stream bed, which are an important feature of chalk streams. Our monthly water monitoring helps us keep track of how water quality changes throughout the year, while also giving us and local landowners a better picture of the health and condition of the stream and its surrounding environment.
