The leader of the Tour de France Femmes has talked publicly about the political and ethical sacrifices she's had to make to reach the top. This begs the question of why athletes need to choose between elite performance and integrity with their values. Does it need to be like this? What can we do?

Full quote below.

"Sustainability isn't just a buzzword, it's a necessity! I used to be politically active and completely avoided flying. Today, I've made many sacrifices for professional sports. This is a difficult situation for me personally; I preach water and drink wine. I live an eco-friendly life in my private life. But in professional sports, I have to be realistic.”

Join the international day for the ban of night flights at airports and for an expansion of night trains ✅🚆❌✈
https://stay-grounded.org/night-trains-not-night-planes/

For the past two years, more than 220 initiatives from 15 countries have declared September 13th as the International day for the ban of night flights at airports. In parallel, activists across Europe have been gathering for pyjama parties for night trains.

This year, we are bringing these two action days together because we need Night trains, not night planes! While we protest AGAINST harmful night flights at airports, we want to promote one of the best already existing alternatives to air traffic in general, by showing support FOR night trains.

Our message is simple: we need to draw non-negotiable red lines. Ban night flights and shift short and medium distance mobility toward slower, connected, affordable rail – so communities can sleep, health is protected, and air traffic emissions are cut now.

Touristification is built on air traffic. Both are a key part in increasing rents, displacing people, making cities unliveable and heating the planet.

A new report by New Economics Foundation and T&E dissects the harmful economic impacts caused by rising international air tourist arrivals, particularly on housing.

New toolkit! 🆕 ⚖️
https://stay-grounded.org/project/toolkit-legal-avenues-airport-expansion/

We’ve joined forces with Opportunity Green to publish a guide to legally challenge airport expansion in the EU. It lays out promising legal avenues, case studies and key resources, covering air quality, biodiversity, climate and noise.

Because the struggle for needs pressure in the streets, in the courts, and everywhere in between.

We met with five groups active in the fight to halt airport expansions across the Spanish state!

On 15 June, we joined them at the Congress of Deputies in Madrid to discuss why current airport expansion plans are incompatible with a just ecosocial transition and sustainable mobility. This was the third stop on our tour of grassroots struggles across Europe.

Barcelona, Bilbao, Málaga, Madrid and Palma are all being suffocated by touristification, and airport expansion would only worsen the social, economic, and environmental impacts — from rising rents to climate breakdown.

It’s urgent to challenge the myths linking airport expansion with economic growth, and to build strength between communities affected by touristification and airport expansion in the fight for a just transition away from this extractive economic model.

Infantino doesn't teleport - he's been gifted a private jet by Qatar Airways.

If ever there was a symbol for the corporate capture of football it is this: a climate wrecking company connected to an authoritarian regime gaining sponsorship rights of the World Cup by giving a private jet to its President.

It's no wonder that World Cups are being played over ever-greater distances when they are captured by the interests of the aviation industry. Greater distances = more super polluting private jet flights = more climate destruction.

But football doesn't need to be like this. It should be the game of the people.

That's why we're calling for private jets to be banned from the World Cup.

Sign now; let's win football for the people. Link in bio.

The fight against Vienna International Airport’s third runway is a textbook example of how persistent, creative, and legally savvy resistance can delay—and ultimately defeat—a mega-project.

The second stop of our tour visiting grassroots struggles across Europe was held in Vienna reflecting on the success of a struggle that began in the 1990s. In November 2026 Vienna airport officially canceled the project to build a third runway. A huge win!

Those who joined said the workshop was a powerful reminder that resistance is a marathon, not a sprint.

A win somewhere is a win everywhere. A win we can all take inspiration from.

That’s why we’re travelling to different struggles this summer to connect movements, learn from each other, and share in our successes together.

Keep an eye on our European Tour stops to learn more about the struggles taking place across Europe!

It's the game of streets, terraces, parks and pubs. In the chants, nerves, joy and heartbreak. It belongs to fans.

But FIFA is turning the World Cup into a corporate spectacle: unaffordable tickets, mega-sponsors, VIP treatment - and private jets.

Gianni Infantino has become the perfect symbol of this rot: the head of FIFA hopping between World Cup matches by private jet, gifted by Qatar Airways. While fans save up, queue, travel across borders and pour their hearts into the game, FIFA’s elite fly over them.

Private jets are not just climate vandalism with leather seats. They are a symbol of a World Cup warped around the rich instead of the people who make football what it is.

Football is for the people - not the private jet class.

FIFA says it wants to be “carbon neutral” by 2040. Then start with the obvious: ban private jets from the World Cup.
