Beating Holiday Hunger
As you know and will have heard in the news, the cost of living crisis is placing huge amounts of pressure on millions of families across the country. Over the summer, this will impact many families and we want to play our full part in supporting those in our local our communities.
Holiday Hunger:
Whilst at school, lots of children receive free school meals, but during the holidays their parents need to cover the cost, adding huge strain to their finances. Up to 3 million children are at risk of being hungry in the school holiday.
Food Banks & Community Groups:
The need for food banks had been increasing steadily for a number of years, but skyrocketed during the pandemic. The Trussell Trust foodbank network, which represents half of registered food banks in Britain, handed out over 2.5 million emergency food parcels last year, with almost 1 million of those going to children. Not only is demand increasing, but as more people are affected by the cost of living crisis the number of donations food banks receive is decreasing.
Morrisons Loughton will be working closely with two organisations this summer to ensure that we do our bit to help support those families most at need in our community.
I will also be running a food bank drive during the week of 18th August, teaming up with the wonderful people over at 3Food4U to get as many items as we can to donate to their outreaches over the summer.
