Loughor Inshore Rescue Loughor Inshore Rescue is one of the UK's independent Lifeboats protecting the Loughor Estuary and surrounding communities.

It is a member of National Independent Lifeboat Association (NILA) and is 100% volunteer-led and self funded.

🛟 Loughor Inshore Rescue had a special visit last night 🛟

We were delighted to welcome Councillors - Andrew Stevens, Jan Curtice & Nicola Matthews, Gower & Llwchwr Estuary Lions Club, Gorseinon Mayor joeclayfield and Heartbeattrustuk to the station last night, and it’s safe to say we didn’t let them get away with just a cup of tea! ☕🚤

Our visitors were treated to a tour of the station, giving them an insight into the work our dedicated volunteers carry out to help keep our local waterways safe.

But the evening didn’t end there! Some of our councillors swapped the comfort of dry land for a night-time demonstration aboard our hovercraft and IRB - we certainly hope they enjoyed getting a taste of life at LIR! 🌙🌊

On a more serious note, we were incredibly grateful to receive a very generous donation during their visit. As an independent lifeboat charity, we rely on the generosity of our community and supporters to keep our service operational, our equipment maintained and our volunteers trained.

🛟🚨It’s been a busy weekend at Loughor Inshore Rescue! 🚨🛟

Our crew have dedicated three days of their own time, giving up their weekend, to complete an intensive Casualty Care Course.

Throughout the course, the crew developed their knowledge and practical skills in assessing, managing and treating casualties in emergency situations, ensuring they’re better prepared for the challenges they may face both on and off the water.

The weekend concluded with a final written examination and practical scenario assessment, putting everything they’d learnt to the test! 👏

💙 Our crew are all volunteers, and weekends like this highlight the incredible dedication they show to keeping our local community safe.

👏 A massive well done to everyone involved, and a big thank you to Grant from Trident Training and Consultancy for delivering the training!

❤️ And most importantly, a huge thank you to our incredible community! As an independent lifeboat charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to keep our service running. Last night club members came together to give our first donation from the profits of this years flounder festival.
Thank you to everyone who entered. Loughor inshore rescue team were very grateful and explained that this would cover the costs of new equipment or suits.

Gorseinon Fire Station is fundraising for charity today with a car wash, so we added a tractor to the mix and now our launch vehicle is looking very shiny.

A big thanks to the fire crews, some of whom are on our volunteer crew too; what an awesome bunch.

We were thrilled to welcome a visit from the 7th Manselton Beavers and Cubs last week.

They were presented with an interactive water safety talk and then they explored all our equipment and vessels with some of our crew.

The groups were eager to learn and we really enjoyed working alongside another volunteer-led group, to help educate children about water safety, while making learning fun and engaging.

This week’s training saw our hovercraft take to the water. It’s an asset that not many lifeboats have or need but it’s vital for our particular terrain.

Parts of the training included launch recovery of hovercraft in an ebbing tide, slipway procedures, tidal flow considerations and night ops.

Thanks to one of our crew members who took some lovely footage out on the estuary.
