Out in Education Loughborough

Out in Education Loughborough Volunteer Organisation that aims to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in schools. Part of Loughborough University's LGBT+ Association.

Out in Education is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2013 to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia at primary and secondary schools. We aim to educate children about non-heterosexual families, to support young LGBT+ people coming to terms with their sexuality, to train teachers on how to organically bring LGBT+ issues into the classroom. We deliver workshops and assemblies t

o students throughout the Loughborough and wider Leicestershire area. Seven in ten primary school teachers hear children say phrases like ‘that’s so gay’ or ‘you’re so gay’ in school. We believe that the first step to equality is acceptance, and we hope to change the way both schools and students view LGBT+ issues and that the stigma is removed. Our volunteers are all students at Loughborough University, that have all had an unique and individual experience of coming out and dealing with homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia in their own school life. The Loughborough Branch was set up in 2016 to help widen the wonderful work that the students at University of Nottingham have accomplished over the last 4 years. 📑DBS SESSIONS📑

Are you wanting to volunteer this year? Will you be working with vulnerable people?

If you do, you may need a DBS! Action are running DBS drop-in sessions from 4pm to 8pm on most evenings this week. You can book a slot to a drop-in session today, tomorrow or Thursday, or you can turn up to apply for a DBS if you aren't busy. To book, just go to lsu.co.uk/action and scroll to the bottom to see the tickets.

You will need to bring 3 forms of ID, you can check which ID is allowed by scanning the QR code attached to this post. Please read the document careful, and don't turn up without your IDs. These must be the original documents, not photos or printouts.

Great news for the future of LGBT+ inclusive education!

These lessons will help prevent mental health issues and bullying. It is encouraging to see that the vast majority of MPs understood this and voted for inclusivity.

MPs have voted in favour of LGBT inclusive relationship education by a resounding majority.
