Canine Partners

Canine Partners The Official page for Canine Partners - a registered charity that trains assistance dogs

We breed, train, and support expert assistance dogs to create loving, life-changing partnerships with disabled people. Across the UK, we support people with a variety of physical disabilities and their families, carefully matching them with a dog that suits their needs, personality, and lifestyle. Our dogs bring confidence and independence, love and companionship, reducing reliance on carers and giving people the freedom to live life their own way.

Meet the Stars of Our Breeding Programme 🐾

Join us for a special Open Morning where we'll be bringing together our wonderful broods (Jacq, Nita, Kellie, Birdie, Louise) and their volunteers to celebrate the incredible dogs at the heart of our breeding programme.

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet our dedicated Dog Breeding Volunteers, chat with them about their experiences, and discover why they choose to support Canine Partners. Whether you're curious about our breeding programme, interested in volunteering, or simply love dogs, we'd be delighted to welcome you.

📅 25 June, 10-12pm
📍National Training Centre, Osgathorpe, LE12 9SR

A huge well done to Sprout and Puppy Training Volunteer Helen for completing the APDT C.I.C - Association of Pet Dog Trainers Puppy Award 🎓

All of our puppies and their volunteers work towards this award. It focuses on building a well-rounded puppy (not an assistance dog at this stage!) and helps ensure their ongoing training supports steady, balanced development. The awards also provide a great way to track progress along the journey.

Has your pup completed any of the ADPT awards?
We’d love to see them proudly showing off their certificates, drop a photo in the comments below 👏

Did you know we run our own Puppy Pilates classes? 🐶

As part of our commitment to keeping our dogs happy, healthy, and ready for their future assistance dog roles, we've introduced a preventative physiotherapy programme for every dog in our care.

After noticing an increase in musculoskeletal issues, we partnered with ACPAT - The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy physiotherapists to develop a proactive approach to supporting our dogs' long-term physical development. Every dog receives a physiotherapy assessment every three months and takes part in tailored exercises designed to build strength, improve posture, and develop the physical foundations they need to thrive.

We're incredibly proud of the positive impact this programme has had and the many success stories we've seen along the way. By investing in prevention, we're helping our future assistance dogs stay fit, strong, and ready to change lives.

💡 Training Tip: "Learning does not finish in the classroom – you need to practise in life, for life."

🐶 Myth Buster: “Puppies learning to become assistance dogs don't come ready trained - they have to learn just like all puppies. We're always looking for volunteers to raise and train our puppies under our guidance - you may change someone's life for the better. What could be more satisfying?”

We’re incredibly grateful to June and Martin for their incredible donation of £10,000!

After the passing of their dear friend, they were tasked with distributing funds to charitable causes, and we are deeply honoured that they chose to support our work.

We would also like to extend our thanks to EXCELR8 Motorsport. without Canine partners being chosen charity of the year as part of Team Vertu, June and Martin would never have known about us, making this wonderful connection possible.

Donations like this help us continue our mission and make a real difference to the people we support every day.

Thank you, June and Martin, for your kindness and generosity 💜

This week is 💜

Did you know some of our assistance dogs are recognised as full-time carers by their local councils because of the physical support they provide?

Meet Carmen, a Canine Partner to Wendy, who lives with Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB), a rare condition that makes her skin incredibly fragile.

For more than 30 years, Wendy's husband Peter was her full-time carer. Today, Carmen helps Wendy with everyday tasks, supports her during medical emergencies and has even been recognised by her local council as her paid carer because of the support she provides.

After years of health complications, cancer treatment and losing her independence, Wendy says her assistance dogs Teddy and Carmen have transformed her life.

"Carmen is my helper, my companion and my best friend. She's given me freedom I never thought I'd have again." 🐾

And in Wendy's own words:
"They gave me my life back."

This , we're celebrating Jane's incredible journey of resilience, hope and determination 💜

After a spinal abscess and meningitis left her paralysed, Jane faced another devastating challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But through it all, she found strength, companionship and a renewed sense of independence with her Canine Partners assistance dogs, Damson and now Walshy.

“Damson gave me my life back and Walshy helps me keep living it. With him beside me, the future feels bright.”
