Changing of Command ⚓

A sincere thank you to Lt (SCC) Dave Derbyshire RNR for his excellent service and dedication during his time as Officer in Charge. The unit is fortunate that Lt Derbyshire will continue to share his expertise and support all cadets and staff in his role as Unit Instructor. 🫡

We are delighted to welcome back Lt (SCC) Kyle Wilson-Kean RNR, who returns as Commanding Officer — having previously commanded the unit. Lt Wilson-Kean brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and looks forward to steering the unit forward into new and exciting times ahead.

Building on strong foundations, the voyage continues — full steam ahead!

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Loughborough Sea Cadet unit (TS Venomous) will be held at the Loughborough Sea Cadet Unit, Beeches Road, Loughborough LE11 2NS at 7.15p.m. on Thursday 29th October 2026 to conduct the following business.
AGENDA
1. Apologies for absence
2. Opening address or comments by Chairperson
3. Minutes of the last AGM for approval
4. Matters arising from minutes of the last AGM
5. Unit Chairperson’s Report
6. Commanding Officer’s/Officer-in-Charge’s Report
7. Treasurer’s Report and adoption of accounts
8. Election/Re-election of the Unit Management Team (UMT)* trustees
9. Any Other Business**
*Notes:
· Election of the Unit Management Team (UMT) trustees – Individuals who are seeking election to the UMT must have their nomination proposed and seconded.
· Nominations can only be accepted if they are submitted on the official nomination form which can be obtained on email from Sarina Martin, [email protected]
· Forms will be available from Friday 9th October 2026.
· The criteria as to who is eligible is available on request please contact Mrs Martin for details.
· Any waiving of these criteria is at the discretion of the Volunteer & Business Support Manager (VBSM).
· Only fully completed forms will be accepted.
· Proof of posting is not proof of receipt.
Fully completed nomination forms need to be received to Mrs Martin on email by Friday 23rd October 2026..
All newly elected UMT trustees will be required to complete a disclosure application, complete a P1 form – application to join Sea Cadets which includes a Trustee Declaration indicating that they know of no reason why they cannot become a charity trustee, complete three online e-learning courses within two months and an Induction Day within 6 months of joining.
** Note: Any Other Business – Items of AOB will only be considered if they are proposed and seconded in writing to Mrs Martin at least 24 hours before the meeting.

Oaks Spring Fair Monday 25th May, 2026
As the event is held on a field the best address to use to find it is - St James the Greater Church, Oaks in Charnwood, LE12 9YD. From here the field entrance will be clearly sign posted.
Joining Instructions as follows:-
9.45am - 3pm
REMEMBER: Please bring packed lunch or money to buy lunch.
If you are able to arrive before 9.45 you will be able to help with setting up the stall. Parents we encourage your help to assist with setting up and taking down. More hands make light work.
These events are key to us fundraising to assist with the running of the unit. Increasing living costs (even as a Charity) are becoming harder to cover. Seeing Cadets and Staff in Uniform on the stalls draws people over to see what we are about so not only are we raising funds we are also recruiting for more Cadets and Volunteers (Uniformed/UMT).

The Sea Cadets, Army Cadets UK, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, and Cadets In Schools help to give young people a real advantage in education and work.

A 2021 study by the University of Northampton found that Cadets develop key communication, teamwork and leadership skills and become more confident and resilient, setting them up for future success.

And under a new ‘30 by 30’ campaign launched last year, the Government has ambitious plans to expand Cadet opportunities for a new generation of young people.
